How quick is your setup, if you just connect from a PC on your home network?
Have you tried without the firewall on your NSLU2?
Have you tried removing the NSLU2 firewall, and setting your router to only allow your works IP address?

The 360s media capabilties are basic at best. They work well, just a pity only the basis are available. A working uninstaller!!!
As a newbie, i've been playing with various versions, to see which is most stable, an has all the features i need.
As such i've run the existing uninstaller (for the Linksys NSLU2) a couple of times, and i was amazed that nothing seemed to have been removed.

5.x is pretty unstable on the NSLU2 in my experience.
4.x seems far more stable for me.

I had that, and it turned out to be a problem with my PCs firewall. I disabled the firewall, and it worked first time.
