A little more details would help. I assume, from what you posted, that you're not running on standard x86 (Intel/AMD) - if that is the case what are you trying to run it on?

If there is, it'll be specific to the operating system you're running it on - Twonky is just an application that runs on top of the operating system.

If it is stuttering then the problem is likely a lack of bandwidth between your Twonky system and the TV. If you're using WiFi then that's probably the problem - try using HomePlug AV (200 Mb/s or above) or network cables.

That post needs a +1 button ;) Given that my quad core 3.1 GHz Core i5 can't encode 1080p media in anything close to real time at good quality there's no way any NAS could cope. Discussions on the Handbrake forum about the quality of GPU encoding makes interesting reading (but not encouraging). By p...

I use AAC in MKV files with my Samsung (2009) and it is quite happy. MP4 however seems to need MP3. You'll need to transcode your media permanently using either the likes of Handbrake to translate the entire file or the MKVunix toolchain to extract the audio, transcode it using the tool of your choi...

It will be that the BDP-BX57 doesn't support your file types. You may find that an updated firmware helps, though it may be that it only supports certain file types (certainly mine is quite happy with MP4 files, but won't play MKV files).

Re: Rewind / forward on Samsung TVs
A search will find many threads on the subject. Media is supported differently if it's local compared to being served by DLNA, hence why you can rewind and fast forward from the USB stick.
I've found that generally you can rewind and fast forward MP4 files reliably, but not MKV files.

Just run the installer.
Personally I use the manual install option and move the old version out of the way (eg rename it to twonkyserver-6.0.38 and then install the new version. Then I've always got a simple step to revert to the previous version if there are issues.

It sounds like either a network problem or more likely a problem on the server. Monitor its load (CPU and I/O) and see if there are any patterns related to when you see the issue on the TV (Process Explorer is quite handy for that).

There isn't any built in way of doing that. You can't to it automatically. You could try to do it manually, but you'll inevitably be out of sync. If you want to have multiple audio streams in sync then you need to use protocols and devices designed for that.

1) It doesn't really matter - just ensure you don't use one that's commonly used for other services. That means that ports above 1024 are generally advised, with 1080 and 8080 being commonly used.
2) Correct, if you want to secure remote access to your media then you need to use a VPN.
