Hi Guys, I also figured the Roku setting (since I own one device myself). Funny enough, if you delete the <Capabilities> <MediaTypeList> <MediaType>MUSIC</MediaType> </MediaTypeList> </Capabilities> part it won't change a thing. Re: TS 7.x - New XML DeviceDB entries get ignored??
I think you may be missing the <MediaTypeList> tag that surrounds <MediaType> entries. Here is the <Capabilities> section from the Philips Streamium and Roku Soundbridge profiles. Both of these are audio only devices. It works on my Roku. <Capabilities> <MediaTypeList> <MediaType>MUSIC</MediaType> <...

Re: a question about pid files twonky and linux
PID files are a standard convention in Linux (I think it goes back even farther to Unix). They are generally used by server process's. A pid file contains a process's PID (i.e. the Process ID). These files are generally used in startup/shutdown/reload etc. scripts to find a process's PID and determi...

It is the client mediaplayer device that decides what it can and cannot play. By default, Twonky just streams the file as is. You usually cannot use the twonky.sh script to start Twonky on a NAS device without modifying it to match your NAS device's file structure layout. The script is for mainline Linux. The implementation of ps on most Linux NAS devices does this.
If you have Optware installed on your NAS then you can get the full Linux ps by installing the procps package, if it is available for your NAS.

According to this thread on a DNS hacking forum (http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=6653) there is a bug in the implementation of inotify in the DNS-320 OS.
Chances are the bug is crashing Twonkyserver.

You have to look at the configuration and connections of your mediaplayer to figure that out. Twonkyserver just sends a bit-stream of the media file that it has been requested to serve. It has no control over how your mediaplayer plays the file.

A media server just bit-streams the file. It does not decode the file, that is what the mediaplayer does.
PS3 mediaserver transcodes and remuxes the files to be compatible with the PS3.
Twonky will stream any files that are natively supported by the PS3.
