the network discovery sharing etc in windows 8/8.1 isnt as easy to invoke as it is in win 7
but the implications are the same behavior in both 7 and 8/8.1

I would first try and see if you can identify what specific media item is causing the issue
and see if you can move it out of the share

you should first figure out how to enable SSH on the NAS, or "possibly" telnet the Linux build you downloaded is not for nas devices nas devices don't use pc cpu's, so you will need to know what cpu architecture is on the nas once you know that there are builds for them, links to builds are located ...

It has to do with the twonky service running as the "system" account
If you change the service to run as a user account, it will work as expected

But, there is no rebuild button, so to do a database rebuild, use an rpc call with this url

Since they never released a final version of 7.3 for nas, I havent touched it in a long time But I do know the 7.3.0 for the other platforms is a buggy, so I still use 7.2.8 As to what is causing the situation and error you are seeing not really sure, as I am unaware of airplay being part of twonky ...

to me that means nothing is being used, which is rather odd

Yeah there is no setting within twonky that tells you where it is running from it just knows where to put its working/cache data which you seem to have found If you look /etc/init.d there "might" be a shell script that starts twonky, and it might tell you where twonky is installed by looking at the ...
