Re: streamng video to xbox360
The Xbox is not DLNA compliant, so needs hacks to work around Microsoft's propitiatory streaming code. It's codec support is not particularly good either. If you want a great console thats also a great media centre that adheres to DLNA spec with much better codec support to boot, I would join the da...

I had some problems with v5.0.x builds segfaulting on a SheevaPlug. (the v4.x builds work and the 5.1 betas work). Anyhow, after a bit of troubleshooting, I have discovered that if I rename convert.exe in the cgi-bin directory to something else, the server stays up without failing. So I have narrowe...

The SheevaPlug eventually turned up on Monday (this is a VERY popular item right now, and leadtimes are very long). Anyway, I'm REALLY impressed with it so far. It's an incredible bit of kit for $99. It's pretty simple to get Twonkymedia running on the plug, and it performs very well. I have detaile...

On the Amazon Vine program where they send you free stuff to review and keep, usually it's books and DVD's, but this month I bagged a 500GB Linksys Media Hub NMH405 to review and also a Phillips MP4 player.

My personal feeling is it's better to build your own server, as you can deploy TwonkyMedia updates and betas when they are available, and not have to wait on HP (or whoever) to release a server or NAS update. You should install Twonky on the device storing the media. It's a really bad idea to try and stream to remote devices with the media itself being on a remote drive.
The fact Twonky won't let you share media on network drives is intentional (I suspect) to prevent this fundamentally bad practice.

I don't think a NAS would be too suitable for transcoding, as it's got limited resources. Transcoding is hugely processor and memory intensive..
There are benefits in TMS5 (media feeds for example), but I would't hold out hopes of transcoding as being one of them for a NAS.
