Photo Scaling - PLEASE FIX

Post by mw3330 » Mon Nov 05, 2007 11:12 pm

I cannot believe that this does not work. I have been trying everything to get full screen photos displaying on my TV and regardless of the resolution of the photos, they only appear as small images in the centre of the screen. In desperation, I loaded DLink's Media Server v1.09 and behold, the photos displayed full screen and crystal clear. All resolutions (3296x2480, 3072x2304, 1200x903, 1024x768) work on Media Server but not TwonkyMedia.

Early versions of TwonkyMedia (3.1) display full screen but low res.

How is this so hard to fix if DLink can do it?

Advice/ support please.

Note: Video (VOB/MPG, AVI all work full screen without a hitch)

Can confirm; I've same issue and problem..regardless of ratio-settings on my D-Link, settings in Twonky (rescaling on/off,..) and resolution of the photos...

But my effect ist, that on my 16:9 TV screen there is still a big black stripe below the picture.

Streaming via my PC with DLink's Media Server 1.09 the photos displayed full screen and crystal clear, too...

I can further report that TVersity also displays photos correctly (also does a great job with video and music). It is disappointing that two free pieces of software do a better job than the one that I pay a licence for....

I remember, that in older verions of Twonky (guess < 4.1) this was never an issue and problem. But simultaneous I experienced with different D-Link FW Files (1.05 - 1.09)...

Now, I don't know the combination (but I still won't go back to older D-Link FW Files) and btw. I bothered and nerved to change and try out everything....

I had a similar problem to mw3330 regarding scaling. My pictures didn't appear full screen. I emailled Twonky support about this, and they suggested that I needed a "custom" scaling factor, and advised me how to go about changing this. It's quite simple....

All you need to do is edit the clients.db file in your resouces directory under TwonkyVision. This file has a section for each supported client device. The DSM-320 section starts with:

ID:006
NA:D-Link DSM320

Somewhere beneath this there are two lines that define the scaling applied. By default these read:

PX:800
PY:600

To get my pictures full screen I had to change these to:

PX:1200
PY:900

I also made sure that Picture Rescaling was switched on in Twonky (i.e. Not Disabled), and I set Photo Rescaling on the DSM to "Keep Original Size".

You may have to experiment with you own settings, to get the right scaling, but I'd be interested to know what values work for other people. Maybe the defaults are wrong?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Just tried 1024x768 as a test and the tv picture enlarged. :) It's 1:30 AM so I will try other res in the morning and let you know what works. Also like to explore other gems in the clients.db file. Perhaps I can fix the photo sorting problem there too.

Which setting did you finally choose?
