Twonky & XBMC

Post by toibs » Tue Sep 26, 2006 10:20 pm

Guys,

Looking for some help. I have a modified X-box (original), and have installed X Box Media Centre (latest version). I also have a netgear Mp101 for streaming Mp3's. It is intended that both of these are fed from a buffalo Terastation.

Now i am running TM 4.1 on the Teraststion. The netgear works no problems. However when i try to get XBMC working, apparently it cant find the server using uPNP. However can navigate to it fine using SMB manually.

The Mp101 still works perfectly.

Finally i set up (using internals) a uPnp server using the "media sharing" option on my laptop with Vista RC1 on it - sorks a treat (so effectively both parts seem to work, just not together!)

Could anyone please advise if they had to change any of their settings on either XBMC or Twonky to make this work at all??

Thanks
Paul

As far as i was aware, XBMC supports Upnp - unless something needs a tweak....

Christian - please could you expand a little....

Thx

ooh.. just noticed...

There are many new features and functions that have been introduced since the 1.1.0 point-release, that we cannot list them all here. A few that are especially worth mentioning are; the enhanced GUI/skin-engine, the Project Mayhem III skin, DVD-Video menu/navigation support (with ISO/IMG image parsing), RAR/ZIP archive parsing, a new audio/music-player (PAPlayer) with crossfade, gapless playback and ReplayGain support, Karaoke CDG-file display, Xored Trainer Engine (gaming-cheats), XLink Kai (online-gaming) front-end, iTunes 6.x DAAP and UPnP-clients, and two surprise features; read-only support for FAT12/16/32 formatted USB Mass Storage Devices up to 4GB in size, and a brand new "skinnable" 3D visualizer.

Hi,

I have a related problem. I also try to use XBMC (2.0, the latest) with Twonky. In my case the problem is that XBMC detects twonky fine if I am running Twonky on my laptop. However, if I run Twonky on my Asus WL-HDD, I cannot get XBMC to recognize the server...

If I use the One2Share plugin for winamp on my laptop, I can access Twonky on the WL-HDD just fine, so Twonky seems to be running fine on the WL-HDD.

Can it be that Twonky on the WL-HDD serves just a little bit different information as Twonky on my laptop? And that thats the reason why XBMC can detect Twonky on the laptop, and not on the WL-HDD?

I have the same problem but with a diffferent NAS.

I have a Qnap ts-201 NAS and a xbox v1 with XBMC 2.0

My xbox can see my pc's twonky server (v4.1) no problem at all, but it cannot see my Qnap's twonky server at all.

I havn't changed any settings yet on the Qnap, as they look to be fine, apart from giving it a UPnP server name. The server status say's it running fine and serving 3000+ tracks etc.

Annybody got any ideas?

Hi @all,

I experience the same problems. I was running TM 4.1 on a Win2k3 server which was auto detected by xbmc properly. I then changed my mind and set up my media server on a Fedora Core 6, but XBMC is not detecting the Twonky Media Server anymore.

Yesterday I've tried to edit the sources.xml file, which holds the bookmarks for the different sources. The auto detect value for UPnP is set to "upnp://" and I replaced it with "upnp://ip_address:1901" as mentioned on the xbmc wiki page, but it didn't work.
My Roku Soundbridge has no problems accessing the TM server.

Concerning the other posts, I guess that the problem is always the same. Running the TM server on a linux based OS like on NAS devices, it isn't properly discovered whereas windows based installations seem to work fine.

IMHO, this is an xbmc related problem and cannot be solved by the Twonky crew, although I'd be glad to have a solution.

My last statement can be fleshed out because I discovered that xbmc isn't willing to connect to a MythTV UPnP Backend running on the same Machine as the TwonkyMedia does. Network issues can be disregarded because a Roku Soundbridge can connect to both, Twonky and MythTV.

Hi,

I played a bit more with this today

My XBMC can find a WindowsXP install of twonly but it does not find the Version running on the Linkstation.

Other Upnp Clients are finding the one on the Linkstation

so what could be the difference between the w32 Version and the mips Version on my Buffalo ?

I could trace via Wireshark

Hi,

i have the same problems with the latest XBMC-Package and the latest Twonky on a Linkstation Pro / Debian. The Noxon2 and the Vista-Mediaplayer is able to connect to Twonky and the xbox has Network and Internet-Access...

Are there any news about this problem?

Hi,

we do not have an XBMX - but if it can see another UPnP server like
WMC or Tversity - an Ethereal (or Wireshark) dump of the first connection and Browse would help (no need to playback content).

Send it to gran@twonkyvision.de

Thanks

Basically I would love to use TwonkyVision with XBMC and have Twonky running on my Mipsel Buffalo Linkstation.

I have tried 4.1, 4.2 and now also the latest 4.3

I tried Various Versions but I can never see my Linkstation from XBMC using the Upnp Function.

I can see via Upnp on the Xbox TwonkyVision running on my Windows PC and also I can see Windows Media Player 11 on my Laptop or another PC in my Network.

If I use a Upnp Browser that is at present still in development on my German Dbox I can see the Twonly Vision on my Buffalo.

I have made some traces with Wireshark and left them here:

A dev that coded Upnp support for the German Dbox (Tuxbox Neutrino Linux) Project replied to my traces of communication between XBMC and my Upnp Servers running in the Network.

It seems the UPnP MSEARCH is only replied to if it's send to the Broadcast-Adress.

This is when using Nero Media Hom 2.5.50 and it seems to be against Upnp specification.

Is any Dev interested in this Issue ?

What I have noticed so far is that the DBox with a Upnp Client can see & use my TwonkyVision install on my Buffalo Linkstation and the PC Based installation on my Laptop.

XBMC cannot see my Buffalo Linkstation Twonky install

How can both of them behave differentely ?

Hey PT-1!
Thank you for your hard & good work! Too bad, that none of the Dev's seems to be interested . Let's hope, that they will have a look at it...

It seems that XBMC is not 100% Upnp conform...

XBMC and connecting to TwonkyMedia on a Mac

Post by ataoz » Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:42 am

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble getting XBMC to recognize any shares on TwonkyMedia 4.3 running on my Mac. I always get the message "Could not connect to network server" in XBMC when trying to connect to TwonkyMedia on my Mac. I've configured TwonkyMedia using the TwonkyMedia Configuration in FireFox and added all my shares. On XBMC I enabled "Autostart UPnP client," added a source under Music and chose "UPnP Server" as the protocal. For the address I typed in the IP of my Mac where TwonkyMedia is running. I have a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N router but my Xbox and my Mac are hard wired to it. My iTunes Library is on its own external drive, and my videos are on its own external drive as well. I've opened up port 9000 on my router and I can ping my Xbox from my Mac. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help is much appreciated.

@All,

I upgraded my XBMC last night to the Tech 19.08.2007 release as I read below's fixes:

XBMC hat mal Ihren Upnp Server/Client upgedated ;-)

2007-08-18 9982 changed: upnp client will not show folders that are known to be
empty changed: always give item count for video files, audio files, picture files
upnp roots
2007-08-18 9981 fixed: thumbnails for folders should now work over upnp too
2007-08-17 9979 fixed: Wrap around listitem(offset).* wasn't working correctly in
lists.
2007-08-17 9976 reverted: parts of previous commit that was wrong
2007-08-17 9975 fixed: XBMC_PC and XBMC on xbox wouldn't find eachother properly
over upnp
2007-08-17 9974 changed: store upnpserver.xml in userdata instead of system
2007-08-17 9973 changed: reorganized upnp options.
2007-08-17 9969 added: upnp server now exports xbmc's video/music library. files on
xbox hd are exported by http server, external items with their own url. Note hardly
any client apart from xbmc will understand urls such as shout://,smb:// and other
internal xbmc variants, so you might have limited luck with external files.
2007-08-17 9968 changed: add some more label names to
CVideoDatabaseDirectory::GetLabel changed: make GetLabel of CMusicDatabaseDirectory
and CVideoDatabaseDirectory static
2007-08-16 9966 fixed: Lists with static content didn't save their focused item.
2007-08-15 9956 added: basic UPnP renderer, remote control playback of xbmc from
another UPnP device. ( currently fails to update status correctly to controller, so
expect some oddities ). Use intel's upnp AV Media Controller for example to test for
example. 2007-08-14 9941 fixed: upnp server wouldn't serve paths wich ended with a slash
updated: upnp lib Platinum to 0.3.8 revision.
2007-08-13 9931 changed: handle upnp tags separate for video/audio/picture items
changed: upnp now sends responses/announces on the loopback interface too (windows
media player does so on local machine)2007-08-13 9924 fixed: curl could assert if something threw an exception inside
fixed: curl didn't work in win32 build added: thumbnail loading for upnp client
2007-08-13 9923 fixed: make upnp folders have a trailing slash.
Found here hier

You can find the latest Version always herediese

And guess what ?

IT WORKS !!!!!!!!

XBMC can now see Twonky Version 4.4 Beta 4 on my Linkstation ;-)

I am unsure when Twonky releases 4.4.1 for the Mipsel Linkstation

anybody get this to work?

Post by chowyunfat2000 » Wed Dec 12, 2007 3:59 am

Hi,
I was just checking if you are still able to get this to work?

I have installed twonky 4.4.2 on my nslu2.(linux)

I downloaded a free upnp client called cedro and I can see all the files.

XBMC can't not find it.

I also installed twonkey on PC and xbmc can see this without any issues.

the xbmc people said it has something to do with multicast:
-----------
there are a few different ranges of ip adresses, some are unicast some are multicast. mutlicast is generally for sending data to multiple recepients at the same time.

upnp mandates the use of multicast for upnp communications, the xbox can't send multicast, so we send unicast (or actually broadcast). if the device follows upnp guidlines strictly and only accept data when it receives a proper multicast, the xbox won't work.

you have to check with twonky about this.
