hi,

i've scoured this forum looking for answers to this, and while there have been many posts with similar problems, i haven't seen any solutions.

the media server recognizes the presence of video files (xvid, divx, avi), but when i navigate to the folder in the xbox, there are no videos displayed.

i have seen others say that video works fine.

my OS is linux (ubuntu).

is this a problem with the video format? or something else?

i really want to buy a license if i can get it working. please help! :-)

thanks,
jeremy

Yes, same issue here. I've got .mpg and .avi files. The xbox navigates the folder structure presented by Twonky, but there are no videos to play.

Twonky has scanned and recognized them ok.

I'm running 4.4.2 on a QNAP TS-209 NAS.

I'm having the exact same issue.

Qnap 209Pro, not seeing anything but WMV in the folder on the 360.

Have either of you tried downloading a WMV clip and putting it in the video folder to make sure that the 360 is seeing the folder correctly?

i'm not sure how to resolve the issue, but I do know that WMV and WMV HD seem to be working correctly.

i have seen that the 360 might not like certain "friendly names" (not quite sure what that is but I'm assuming it's the cap letters following the name of the server, in my case MEDIASERVER) if you change the friendly name others have said that they could see the other file types. The problem is I can't do that on the Qnap 209.

Jeremy you might see if it's something you can try in Unbuntu, might solve the issue for you.

If anyone finds out how to fix the issue please post here.

changing the server name didn't have any effect.

i downloaded some sample wmv hd clips and added them to the video directory. they are visible (and playable) in the xbox now. also, my other (non-wmv) videos are listed, but they are not playable.

it would be nice if twonkyserver could use something like ffmpeg to convert non-wmv on the fly.

MPG to WMV conversion

Does anyone know of a good transcoder to convert MPG / AVI files to WMV (not on-the-fly)?

I tried Windows Media Encoder but it was reporting that it wanted 35 hours to convert a 200Mb MPG!

Also I tried importing the MPG into Move Maker and save as WMV, but it made a real hash of it.

I believe Xbox 360 only will play back mpeg4 or h.264 encoded files

I was using Toast 8 to convert avi to h.264. It took about 3 hrs to convert 650 meg file.

I used eyeTv to convert (4.5 Gb) 90 min recording to h.264 and it took about 8 - 9 hrs.

I've tried h.264, mp4, hinted for streaming QTs, a bunch of different codecs. The only one that I found to work is .wmv. Bummer since all my stuff is h.264 for my ipod.
