Xbox 360 media types

Does the Xbox 360 support all the media types Twonkymedia does?
I recently purchase a Qnap NAS and I can see the device, play MP3's and view pics, even play a .wmv hd that I downloaded for trial, but I can't see any other video types, .MP4, .VOB etc.
How are you encoding the videos to get them to show up on the 360?
