Want a new forum/fora?

Post by wideasleep1 » Sun Dec 09, 2007 12:19 am

It seems to me the volume of PS3 and XBox users is gaining steam wrt posts, so I'm wondering what users think about the following:
1) Separate PS3/XBox forum
2) Separate PS3 forum, and separate XBox forum
3) Things are fine right now

This was 'supposed' to be a poll, but I kept getting a debug error every time I attempted to create the poll as a sticky (explains the duplicate posts, too). So..forget the poll, and just use posts as feedback. /sigh

Since the Xbox 360 fall update I think the amount of xbox users trying this software out is going to increase quite rapidly. I think it would be a good idea.

I have created separate fora for both XBOX and PS3, so please direct queries to these new fora, rather than Other Devices forum. Additionally, I have moved the two Telegent topics into Other Devices, and have deleted the Telegent forum. Telegent users can post their queries in Other Devices forum. Thanks!

Dear friends from Twonky,

Could you separate the forum by BRAND? For example = Samsung, Sony, etc etc.
I could be very useful for all the users !!

Regards!

Good request. Send a PM to mgillespie and make this request again in that e-mail. Please include a link to my response here.

We don't want to add too many sections, but I agree that adding a section for Samsung and possibly Sony makes sense.

/twonky/resources/clients.db file - entries for new devices

Post by Darr247 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:35 pm

How about a forum just for /twonky/resources/clients.db entries so new devices can be recognized and/or setup to work correctly?

Then PVC could possibly include those entries in the clients.db file of future Twonky releases.

I see in the developer's forum a guy posted a link to a tool ("magpie") for interrogating DLNA responses from devices on your LAN - http://www.upnp-database.info - but he didn't post anything specific there about the clients.db structure.

e.g. what are valid entries for the
NA: (name?)
AV:
DD: (device DLNA response?)
HP:
XM:
MT: (media transcoding?)
DB:
et al, fields in that file?

I assume for DD I need to put "OPPO PLAYER" - which is the response Oppo BD players return using that magpie tool... but once I get working descriptions for my devices I'd like to be able to share them here, and have others be able to find and put them to use.

We're unable to search for messages about the clients.db file here because even the Advanced search drops the period from the filename when used as a search term, then complains because "db" is less than 3 letters so the board refuses to search for it, while the other word (clients) is too general returning excess results. The only other message I happened across here incorrectly calls it "client.db" so I couldn't even search for it locally, because its actual name is "clients.db" in the 5.1.9 version on the MyBook World NAS boxes I have.

Thanks.

This seems like a good idea to me, but keep in mind that TwonkyServer 7.0 will be moving to a new XML-based client db, so it might make sense to create this glossary after that is released.

Why doesn't this field duplicate the subject in a Reply?

OK... how about documenting what each of its fields are, in the FAQ, then?

It shouldn't be that hard to convert everything to XML once that change is made,
e.g.
<NA>(name?)</NA>
<AV>?</AV>
<DD>(device DLNA response?)</DD>
<HP>?</HP>
<XM>?</XM>
<MT>(media transcoding?)</MT>
<MT>(another media transcoding?)</MT>
<DB>?</DB>

but I kind of doubt western digital is going to upgrade us MBWE owners to version 7.xx on our current NAS boxes (they don't even want to build NAS boxes with replaceable drives anymore... to increase overall sales they just want you to throw away external drives every 2 years and buy entire new enclosures), so I'd like to be able to configure the version I have with the components I have.

Thanks again.

That seems like a fair request. I'll pass it on and post any response I get here.
