Xbox 360 + Twonky + Media Server on public IP?

Post by jkt527 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:46 am

Wondering if it is possible to build a solution for this:

Xbox360 at my residence, on a 5M cable connection, behind el cheapo Linksys router. x360 has a private range IP. Modem (public side) has static IP.

Twonky running on remote media server on public IP with basically unlimited bandwidth.

Basically, I want my home x360 to be able to access a remote library.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

I don't think it would work with a DLNA/UPnP solution as it makes use of multicast addressing. You would probably need to provide some sort of custom proxy inside your private network that used DLNA to the XBOX360 but actually got its music from the public server using an alternative method. Sounds like a lot of hassle; perhaps a VPN would be better and then it would all appear as a private network even though it tunneled through a public network.
