Sony BDP-S370

Hey,

my Sony BDP-S370 got an update with DLNA support few days ago. But I can't stream any videos to my device using TonkyMediaServer 5.1.3.

I always get the message: "No playable files found" when I connect to my MediaServer and navigate to the right folder.
Tried with DivX AVIs and H.264 MKVs.

Any idea which profile I can use to watch videos with my player?

Thanks for any help.

I have exactly the same problem.

Sony fob me off with file formats etc but doing extensive web searching it appears almost no one has got this to work.

I have the same problem if I use EyeConnect so it all points to the Sony...

The following settings are working with my S370 Player:

Code: Select all

>>
NA:Generic S370
HH:DLNADOC/1.50
XM:DLNA15
TR:JPEGORG,JPEG160x160,JPEG640x480,JPEG1024x768,JPEG1920x1080,MPEG
DB:AUTO
MT:mkv video/divx
But mkv's are stuttering and so un-watchable. :(

firefly, where do you put those settings? Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to Twonky.

I have this blu-ray player too, and I can get it to see (and play) my MP3s, MPEG2 files and Divx AVI's, but it refuses to see any .mp4 or .m4v files. They play fine from USB, but not from Twonky.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I also have a Sony BDP-S370 running the latest M03.R.623. Depending on the server I am using, the BDP acts differently. I have used Mediatomb, Serviio, PMS, coherence, among some. All work with my playstation 3 and WDTV Live. The BDP would either not recognize the server at all, show the Photo, and Music Icon, but not the Video Icon, or would not find any playable files. When working with serviio, it was discovered that the BDP-S370 required regional information passed from the server to the BDP, specifically for US sets "MPEG_PS_NTSC" This allowed the playable formats to be played. Is there a way to pass this information from Twonky to the BDP as Serviio does?

I have a UK BDP-S370 and set it up in Twonky as a generic media player. On my server, I have avi, mpg and mkv files but only the avi files show up. Using the same client settings in Twonky, my iPad with Air Player will show all the files and play them back ok (bandwidth permitting).

Sorry to bring up an old thread, I too am having trouble :(

I've used that code in my clients.db file, and now the BD player recognises MKV files via Twonky.

However, when I try to view them, the BD player seems to "buffer" them which can take forever (especially for larger MKV files). Once it starts to play, the playback is very choppy.

I'm not sure what to do now, short of converting all my MKV files to AVIs... something I do not want, considering how many MKV files I have.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone !

I need to get your help. I have the US Model of the S370. A brief:

- The Blu-Ray S370 has the lastest firmware M03.R.695
- I got a "Unsupported file" message with any DivX and AVI files
- I can play MP4 files
- All the DivX files (with subtitles) work excellent with my PS3.

Any suggestion to result the issue !

Best Regards!

Well, I have a 570 not a 370 but so far the ONLY files mine can see are regular old Mpeg2 for video and mp3 for audio. No mp4, mkv, xvid, avi, mp2ts. Most of my video content is mp4 but mp2ts would be nice as well (for the record I am hardwired not using wifi)

Hi

I could play some DivX and MP4 files with other Media Server ( Se_rv iio). According to the profiles of that product we have to transcode the movies.

Could someone tell me how to transcode in Twonky? What options we have?

Regards!

I tried those setting but I still get this error = "There is no playable file". My S370 is an "US Model" Is your model from Europe or Canadian?

@Twonky Team
I'd really appreciate your help with this case. I already opened a ticket with your Support Team in order to resolve this issue.

Still waiting your support! :!:

By the way, I reviewed others Media Servers Forums, and according to them the S370 support MPEG and MPEG2TS formats. So, my questions are

- Does Twonky Server support MPEG2TS?
- How can I update the profile for the Sony Blu-Ray Player in order to add support to the transcoding from MP4 and DivX to MPEG2TS? What lines should I add?

I'd appreciate your help ! :D

Regards!

I am still waiting for support on transcoding to serve files to a BDP-S570 Sony blue ray.
Bottom line, it is possible to transcode using most of the DLNA servers. Some have automated the process and support special profiles for Sony blurays and they actually work ok with some minor problems like the inability to fast forward or rewind.
Additionally, each regional version of the firmware has it's own limitations - for the 570, the US version will NOT play divx files whereas the Canadian and EU will.
Theoretically, you should be able to setup the transcoding for these blurays with Twonky. There are two important things that need to be setup first: The MIME types in the clients.db file - I actually got some files to work by copying the mpeg part from the PS3 profile, and the actual transcoding which is done with the desc files in the CGI-BIN directory.
There is a post in the forums called "The secret Transcoding feature" that is helpful:

http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ing#p33030

I am still working on getting the MIME types and transcoding for mkv and MP4 files. I have been able to serve the files but I get no audio. If I have any progress I will share it with everyone.

Hi folks,

I am having streaming problems too. My BDP-S370 will stream MP3s, but not WAV or WMA, however I have discovered if I rename WAV files as MP3, Twonky streams it as if it was LPCM! Very strange.
My question is, is it possible to get Twonky to force WAV files as MP3s without actually renaming them?

Regards
Hayden

Maybe. But first, try renaming your WAV files so they end with PCM. That might work, since some of the DLNA test files are named this way, and this should be a DLNA-certified device.

This is strange because TwonkyServer can stream WMA and WAV without any problems. If you're player cant play these formats, one option might be transcoding to MP3.

Hi Rick,

I tried renaming to pcm and lpcm and the files aren't displayed at all on the s370. If the files are named wav they are displayed but won't play - a message saying 'unsupported format' or similar is displayed. If renamed as mp3 the file is displayed as mp3 but when selected it plays but as lpcm!
As for wma I made an error, wma does stream fine, although according to the s370 manual, wma is a supported format but not over dlna!

You could transcode the files from WMA to MP3 !

Try to add the following line to your profile:

MT:wma audio/mp3

Hi,

Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear, the wma files stream ok, it's only the wav files, I don't want to transcode to mp3, It's the higher quality of the wav files I'm looking for.

Hayden

Hello Hayden,
in most cases it doesn't matter in Twonky whether you use small or capital letters. But in this circumstance it does!
If you use 'pcm' or 'lpcm', Twonky does not see the files, as you already wrote.
You have to use capital letters 'PCM' or 'LPCM'. Then Twonky will put it into its database, but the Sony BDP-S370 still does not see them, therefore it is useless!
But there are 2 solutions:
a) Your files should have the ending 'wav', and in 'clients.db' you have to add ',LPCM' in the 'TR:' line
NA:Sony Blu-Ray Player
HH:Blu-ray Disc Player
XM:DLNA15
TR:JPEGORG,JPEG160x160,JPEG640x480,JPEG1024x768,JPEG1920x1080,LPCM
DB:AUTO
This will show your wav files to Sony as LPCM. Sony will play them, but stops at the end (no automatically jump to the next file, you have to use the SKIP button on the remote control)
b) Rename your wav files to 'mp3'. This will work!
The only disadvantage with solution b) is that Twonky does not tag from the filename as it would be done with wav files:
Genre_Artist_Album_Tracknumber_Songtitle.wav
Best regards,
Bodo

Finally I took a final decision with my S370. I sold it !
  • To play Blu-Ray and/or DVD, It is a great solution
To play videos from a DLNA media server, it is bad solution.
I will move to a Samsung or LG Blu-Ray, they provide a better DLNA support.

Regards!

I haven't seen a Blu-ray yet that as good of a DMR as the WD TV Live. Not sure why that is. Most/all are NOT DMRs and have limited codec support.

Yes, the WD TV Live is one of the best solution in the market! I have a friend who loves that product.

Since I need a Blu-Ray player in my bedroom, I will have to take one of the Samsung or LG models. My Samsung BD-C6900 (@ family room) does a great job! Otherwise, I could take a WD TV Live.

Dear friends,

Finally, I replaced my Sony BDP-S370 (US Version) for a Samsung BD-D5500 (US version). The BD-D5500 works splendidly !!

I created a new topic about BD-D5500 for question/comments about it ( http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9920 ) I see you there !

Best Regards!

I am having similar issues.
Got an S570, have ripped loads of my DVD's onto the NAS. PS3, and various computers play everything back fine. All the files are just ripped off the disc as VOB's, converted to .MPG's, with no transcoding, and put on the drive.
The S570 plays back some files flawlessly, and other not at all. They are all ripped in exactly the same way from commercial DVD's.
Example. It plays back Red Dwarf series 3, but not 2...!

I am going through Sony support now, they want me to send them a file which work, and one which doesn't.
I will let you all know if I get anywhere.
