Problems with XBOX 360 playing H264

Post by joewalch » Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:49 pm

When watching M4V files (H264) over wired ethernet the movie plays, forwards and rewinds etc fairly promptly however after about 20 minutes of play the film cuts out with the XBOX saying the content is unsupported. I can then resume the film, but it then cuts out progressively sooner.

I am running WHS with twonkyvision media server (as WHS standard media server does not support M4V) with a PC and XBOX over gigabit ethernet (although the XBOX only has 100 mbps).

Does anyone know why the stream keeps cutting out? The XBOX plays the files fine from a memory card.

The only thing I can think of is because the XBOX is at the end of a 20 metre CAT6 cable and the distance may be a problem. I have tried wireless but the movie loses sync very quickly. Streamed exactly the same file with Twonkyvision from an XP machine without the same problem, however it loses sync

I've heard there may be a conflict with Windows Media Connect?

Thanks.
