Hello,

I am considering buying an xbox 360 and setting up an ubuntu server to store media I was under the impression that is I bought TwonkyVision I would be able to stream video/music and pictures to the xbox.

However I just saw this post from a while ago http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2006/03/12/ ... d-devices/ and it seems to say that it is not possible to stream video? is this correct?

Cheers

That article is from 2006...yes, Twonky does indeed stream video to the Xbox 360.

There are other solutions. You can download related codec to playback video files on your xbox, or use a video file converter to change the format to make it compatible with xbox.

The Xbox is not DLNA compliant, so needs hacks to work around Microsoft's propitiatory streaming code. It's codec support is not particularly good either.

If you want a great console thats also a great media centre that adheres to DLNA spec with much better codec support to boot, I would join the dark side...
