very weird problem: divx wont play without internet working

Post by urgrue » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:28 pm

My ps3 cant play my divx files if my internet connection isnt working.
It can however play mpeg-2 and other formats. But divx show up as "unsupported data".
If i switch to mediatomb, it works, therefore the problem must somehow be in Twonky...?

Setup: twonky on linux (ubuntu), ps3, both in the same network.

Funny thing is, due to my ISP's broken DHCP, my linux's internet connection always works (since it has a static IP), but the PS3 doesnt because it cant always get an IP. So what I do is manually configure the PS3 to use an IP, set my linux as the default gateway, and NAT on the linux. After this everything works, ie ps3 can access the media files on my linux, and ps3 can access internet (except natted, so some features in some games dont work). But for some reason, all divx files show up as "unsupported data" until the ps3 gets an address from DHCP. Doesnt make any sense at all, I know, but clearly since it works with mediatomb, there must be something different about the ps3 client behaviour when using the manually defined IP from twonky's point of view that breaks divx.....
I just cant figure out what the logic is.

Okay, problem solved: upgrade to twonky 4.4.5 fixed it.

Would be great to know what the cause was though, as it seemed so weird.
