Complete Newbie needing idiot proof help!

Post by thecarumba » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:35 pm

Hi folks!

I'm about as technical as soup to be honest and I really need some help setting up my system!

I've got a WD Mybook World Edition 1TB network harddrive connected to a Netgear WNR854T Router. There is also an IOMEGA USB external drive (500GB) attached to the WDMB. This is accessed mainly by a Windows Vista HP pavilion Laptop. I am wanting to stream movies from the Harddrives onto my PS3. I downloaded twonky hoping I could use that but it in the web configuration there is no option to select the network drives.

Please help!

Thanks,

Rik

Hi Rik

Having recently just installed Twonky on a mybook myself I can tell you its not as simple as downloading an exe from the site and using the config.

There's various guides dotted about the place but here's the best one I believe;

http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t- ... sible-clue

To get you started though you will need to read up on the below. This allows SSH access to your MyBook.

http://martin.hinner.info/mybook/sshaccess.php

A few things in the guide you may struggle with. Once you've downloaded twonky using the command wget if you don't have IPKG installed then you're stuck.
Further down the page some one describes how he got it on using a program called winSCP, this i found to be the easiest.

To save you time writing the startup scripts you can add it by using wget http://www.mpfspromotions.com/muzikrand ... yvision.sh then chmod'ing it.

Have a go and if you've any problems let me know, I'll do my best to help
