Streaming Handbrake H264+AAC to PS3 from Twonkymedia

Post by martineug » Thu Oct 09, 2008 8:51 pm

Having converted my DVDs using Handbrake to H264+AAC using the PS3 settings.

On my PS3(rev 2.43) I can only play the movie locally from memory card.

I cannot stream the movie from my Twonkymedia server(rev 4.4.9).

Results in "Unsupported Data" in PS3.

(H264+AC3 doesn't work at all not even locally)

Anyone had any luck with this?

Make sure PS3 is detected as a PS3 in the Clients table, if it's generic client, you may get problems like this.

Did you use the PS3 profile in Handbrake? It works perfectly for me...

If you want AC3, use x264 video just as in the PS3 preset, add the AC3 audio stream and write to an MKV container, not MP4. Throw the resulting MKV into TSMuxer, remux it to M2TS and use Twonky to stream it to the PS3. Works perfectly for me.

Thanks for the replies.

I want to do this as simply as possible i.e. using Handbrake with the PS3 settings.

I have chosen these settings and Yes the PS3 is detected in my Twonkymedia as "PS3" not "Generic Player".
but still the resultant video is not Streamed correctly. "Unsupported data". The video is playable
locally though.

Confused.

Want to encode a small snippet of something and upload it to Filevault or something, so someone else can try. We can then work out it it's your server or client having problems...

Hi

I have uploaded the first chapter encoded with Handbrake PS3 settings to XDrive.

It is an MP4 file inside a zip file. About 200MB

Here is the link
http://plus.xdrive.com/media?p_id=XDPF- ... BE2775t4Kg

Once the page opens you can click on the arrow symbol at the bottom left of the
Flash player box to download the file. I have downloaded and tested it so I know its not corrupt and
works at least locally using the latest Quicktime player.
PS The download process doesn't give a progress report but you can see a temp file called
FlashTmpxxxx or something like that growing in size as it comes down.

Many Thanks for the help

Eugene Martin

Works fine for me:

80GB PS3, firmware 2.43, Wired/Wireless Network.

I served it up using TwonkyMedia 4.4.9, from a Windows Vista laptop, using default settings (I had to disable Vista firewall for PS3 to see the server), Wireless connection.
It also worked using TwonkyMedia 5.0 Beta 1, from Linux (Gentoo), again using default installation settings, Wired 100Mbit connection.

Hmmm very interesting.

I am serving mine up from a HPMediavault using a flavour of Linux. The only thing I can think of
is my Wireless router is causing problems or the Twonky config file is incorrect.

I'm going to try streaming it from my laptop to see what happens.

Any chance you could post the relevant part of the clients.db file to see if there are any differences?

Thanks for the help
Eugene

Update.

I have successfully streamed the video from Twonkymedia running on my Windows XP laptop.

I then copied the clients.db file from my windows installation to my HPMediaVault installation
to see if that made any difference. The file was a different size than the one that was there but
after rebooting everything it made no difference.

Still can't stream from the HPMediaVault to PS3.

Twonky version on MediaVault is the mipsel-glibc-2.2.3 version from this link
http://www.twonkyvision.com/Download/Tw ... cians.html

Not sure if anyone has a HPMediaVault and could check the video there.

Another question, is there in existence a free Windows Upnp player?
