Largest file Twonky / PS3 support?

Post by jeeptough » Wed Oct 29, 2008 3:06 am

I am new to the product, having all but abandoned SimpleCenter (due to no support). I installed Twonky and it is working much better the SC. I have two test files both mp4. One is 900mb and plays fine via the PS3 over my home LAN. The other file is 2gb and won't start on the PS3. Same problem with SimpleCenter so I am guessing its the PS3 that doesn't support this size file streaming? If so does anyone know where the threshold size is? somewhere b/w 1-2gb I am assuming.

Thanks

Hello,

I am running twonky on a standalone media server box with the file being used a mix of .mp4 and .vob where I dont want to lose film quality as these are the same size as the disk. I am therefore successfully watching files that are 3-4gb plus!

I can also stream files larger than 2GB. I stream from a Lacie Ethernet Big Disk running Twonky 4.4. I have noticed in the past that movies which are long sometimes stop at around the 2 hour mark but I haven't seen this since I upgraded my PS3 to 2.5. Largest file I've streamed is around 4GB - a high quality XVid rip of Saving Private Ryan.

The largest file size for movies and music is:
4GB (or in other words: the maximum file size of a FAT32 file system).
That goes not only for files stored on the PS3 but (for whatever reason) also for files stored on the TV server (even if the server fuile system supports files > 4GB)

For pictures it seems that resolution greater than 10 or 11 MP have problems being displayed on a PS3. This is most likel<y due to a bug in TV server software. Since I do not have any pictures of the resolution I can only refer to other posters in this forum.

What if you're not on FAT32? Is this a PS3 limit as well?
