Does HP Media Vault + Twonky + PS3 = Media Server Solution?

Post by J_J » Fri May 22, 2009 9:03 am

I have searched the web over the past day or so to find the awsner to ths and have found very little evidence of this working.

Has anyone got the HP Media Vault and got it to stream media to a PS3 by using Twonky or another Media Server?

Cheers in advance

The 2nd Gen HP MediaVaults come with Twonky installed. They work excellently with PS3 and Xbox360 as a media server... UNTIL the recent PS3 and Xbox updates. Both system updates have created issues with the MediaVault as a media server. Both consoles still see the server, but the Xbox doesnt detect any media, and the PS3 detects loads of "unsupported data".

In summary, until a solution is found, dont update your consoles!

My personal feeling is it's better to build your own server, as you can deploy TwonkyMedia updates and betas when they are available, and not have to wait on HP (or whoever) to release a server or NAS update.

You are paying for convince and ease of setup when you buy a allinone, but you lose flexability...
