AVI with MP3 Audio streaming problem

Hi,
I'm on 4.4.18 and have issues streaming Avi's with MP3 audio. To put it straight - the audio does not work. In the Infoscreen the PS3 tells me that it is a "mono" stream - but actually doesn't play anything.
The files work great from a usb stick. Any clues?
