Slightly confused about the port 9100 stuff.
Are we saying there are now 2 ports used? 9000 and 9100?
I can't see anything on 9100..

What do you mean? Is this something supported by DLNA/UPnP spec that TwonkyMedia does not currently do?gine wrote:If the remote control of files possible, i think purchase twonky

Re: 4.4 Beta 3 released
Sounds nice. I'm waiting for ff/rew in MPEG2-Files. I'm a bit confused about the download. I downloaded the linux-setup-file "twonkymedia-i386-glibc-2.2.5.sh". After installation it still says 4.4 Beta 2 in the web-interface. The build-date of is 25.5. Maybe I have the wrong download-url? By the way ff & rew do not work so it IS 4.4. Thats odd because the build date of the most files in the archive is also 05/25.
Michael
Update:
I downloaded the archive (via the link in your message) and updated the files form the zip file manualy and it still says:
Beta 2

Hi,
looks like some files did not get build - we will solve this first on Monday!
On the remote port:
You can access the webbrowse URL on the local 9000 port. But as UPnP does not allow security and authentication we introduced a second port which is dedicated for remote access. If you want to remote access your server at home:
- set the remote port to 9100
- set your gateway to forward port 9100 TCP to the mediaserver IP:9100
- set a username and pwd in the config pages
- get a dyndns domain
- set the dyndns option in the server to http://myname.dyndns.org:9100
You can than remote access the content from anywhere in the world...

Hi Christian, thanks very much for the new build.
I'm using TM 4.4b3 on WinXP and serving to PS3.
I tested the new build beta3, here are some problems/suggestions:
- Could you allow *not* to have "All Pictures", "All Video" and "All Music" in the navigation tree? If I remove their labels, as I do for "Playlist" and "-ALL-" in Advanced Setup > Naming, they still show up in the directory tree somehow. That would be useful for people who will never browse those entries and would be cleaning the navigation tree a little.
- I tested MPG2 & MPG files. MPG2 files can now be ff/rw alright, excellent!
However for MPG files (which are still recognized as MPG2 by the PS3); there is still no way to ff/rw them. The options are greyed out on the PS3.
- The suggestion by starhubble is very much needed imho, he says:
- There is still a problem for displaying MP3 tags with japanese language in UTF-8 (unicode), they display weird chinese ideograms when they should display japanese katakana/hiragana.
I have posted a sample mp3 with japanese trackname & japanese filename that shows the problem on the PS3 XMB:
http://videoff7.free.fr/mp3.rar
The japanese tags are OK on the PS3 if I use another media server application called "TVersity" or put the media on SD card and feed the PS3 directly so i think it rules out a problem of the mp3 files themselves.
Also, i see the exact same tag display problem on those tracks if I browse via http://192.168.1.2:9000/webbrowse , so a ps3 isn't needed to detect the bug.
Thanks for your support.
See you,

I really would love to see those subdirectories in the navigation tree too, much more intuitive imho.Also... here is something I really think should be fixed.
Let's say I want to add a directory to the share, for example:
D:\Music\Mp3\Blub\
This directory contains a number of files...
a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3
I add the directory to the share and set it up as "Music-Only", which tells Twonky that it should be displayed under the Music root folder.
Now, the problem is that Twonky will not add this directory to the Music root folder, but rather the files it contains:
Music\
a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3
There should be a way of making the directory appear as a subdirectory under the root folder:
Music\Blub\
a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3
If all shared music files are shoved directly into the root folder things get real messy.

WHERE'S THE MAC VERSION ? (a.k.a. the most important version)
Cannot connect to HP Media Vault
Thanks for the new BETA.
I'm having some troubles with getting my PS3 to stream from my HP MediaVault NAS and was wondering if anyone might have some ideas on what I can try.
I've installed the 4.4 BETAs on both a WinXP PC and the HP MediaVault NAS.
I can happily stream music, videos and pictures from the PC (although it seems as though m4a files aren't working anymore when I thought they had been previously?)
However when I try to stream from the MediaVault the only things I can successfully stream are pictures. The exact same music and video files that streamed from the pc won't stream from the mediavault.
The PS3 tells me that it cannot make a connection with the media server and it shows the mp4 video files as unsupported data formats.
I know the PS3 is able to make a connection because I can view pictures.
Both the PC and PS3 are running on wireless network through the same router, so it doesn't seem to be a network issue.
The only difference that I can fathom is that media vault is running linux and the PC is running Windows and that there is some subtle access restriction on the mediavault that is not present on the PC. However I've verified that all the files and folders on the mediavault are public shares and do not require a password and should be accessible. And again, pictures do work and they reside in the same tree as the music and videos.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
One last point, my PSP is able to get the rss stream of music from my itunes library from both the PC and the MediaVault.
Thanks,
Chas

first thanks for the beta 3. The rw/ff function for the videos is perfect.
What I experienced and miss:
- I miss: TIFF, BMP not (hopefully yet) not working on PS3
- MP4 files which work on the PS3 disc and USB discs connected to the PS3 will be streamed by the Terastation but not with the MSS+. I sent Reinhard two days ago my log file of the attempt to get the things run from the MSS+. I was an occasionally running some test to find out that it works fine from the Terastation. I hope it helps you to figure out (and solve) the problem.
- big problem at the moment: all new beta's are sorting the songs in alphabetically order on the Noxon 2 and Noxon iRadio independently if it is streamed von the Terastation or MSS+. For PS3 the sort order is correct (track number). Is it possible to fix this asap because it makes the streaming for music more or less unusable (and it worked perfectly fine in the former versions).
Again, thanks for this great product. Makes fun to use!
Karsten
Good work.
I just installed 4.4 beta3 on my winxp machine.
Now I got the PS3 to see Twonky. Also I can play Hidef .ts mpeg2 files however I have no sound.
Using my syabas based Snazio player there is normal (dolbyDigital) sound.
The PS3 makes the normal XMB sound OK, and plays music fine from mp3, but after starting a mpeg2 .ts file with DD sound nothing can be heard.

1. Unusal big mp3 ID3 headers are now perfectly read and their information is correctly stored in TV database
2. Remote access works fine (https anyone...?)
3. The new web UI is better in the sense of plug-in stuff but still needs some graphical rework (or can I do this myself by changing code?)
Since I'm planning buying a PS3 I'm looking forward using TV 4.4 with it...
Again: Keep up the great work!

Hi. I've got TwonkyMedia server version 4.4 beta 3 installed (and registered) on my Windows XP box.
I'm having a couple of problems. The first problem is that it's extremely easy to be confused when trying to get the server running as a service.. if I double click the 'TwonkyMedia' icon that's placed on my desktop while the service is running in the background, things seem to get confused, music scans of my network drives fail, etc. I was able to get things working properly by uninstalling TwonkyMedia entirely, then re-installing it from the setup icon, and finally configuring it by shutting the service down from the 'start' menu, copying my .ini file over the one created by the setup program, and finally by reinstalling the service from the start menu.
If I use the 'TwonkyMedia' icon directly, things seem to go crazy, as the service and a local server seem to run at the same time.
My second problem is somewhat more frustrating, even, in that it persists even after I managed to get TwonkyMedia running and scanning properly as a service.
That is, that the TwonkyMedia server seems to completely ignore the sort order I've tried to specify by the file names I've given my files.
I've got a directory that looks like this:
01-still_water.mp3
02-the_maker.mp3
03-o_marie.mp3
04-jolie_louise.mp3
05-fishermans_daughter.mp3
06-white_mustang_ii.mp3
07-under_a_stormy_sky.mp3
08-where_the_hawkwind_kills.mp3
09-siliums_hill.mp3
10-ice.mp3
11-st_anns_gold.mp3
12-amazing_grace.mp3
But when I visit this directory from my PS3, even from the 'Folder' tree, the order is scrambled.
This seems to be the case with all of my albums, even though all the track numbers are properly preserved in the mp3 tags:
[jonabbey@greatland acadie]> mp3info 01-still_water.mp3 02-the_maker.mp3
File: 01-still_water.mp3
Title: Still Water Track: 1
Artist: Daniel Lanois
Album: Acadie Year: 0
Comment: Created by Grip Genre: Folk [80]
File: 02-the_maker.mp3
Title: The Maker Track: 2
Artist: Daniel Lanois
Album: Acadie Year: 0
Comment: Created by Grip Genre: Folk [80]
Instead of following either the file name or the track number, it insists
on presenting some random order, as follows:
The Maker (2)
Amazing Grace (12)
St. Ann's Gold (11)
Where The Hawkwind Kills (8)
Ice (10)
Silium's Hill (9)
White Mustang II (6)
Jolie Louise (4)
Under A Stormy Sky (7)
Fisherman's Daughter (5)
Still Water (1)
O Marie (3)
...
Completely useless for listening to an album.
Is there any way that this can be addressed?
Is there any sort of bug reporting system for registered users?
Thanks,
Jon

Jolie Louise (4)
Under A Stormy Sky (7)
Fisherman's Daughter (5)
Still Water (1)
O Marie (3)
...
Completely useless for listening to an album.
Is there any way that this can be addressed?
Is there any sort of bug reporting system for registered users?
Thanks,
Jon

Oooops,
I just figured that, using the internet access (see my quote below) has a major lack of feature!
No login security!
If I do not want the whole world to access all of my media data without an<y password security (best over https).
For the moment only the setting pages are secured and all other content is "secured" by a special port.
so my feature wish would be:
Allow password protection for all data plus allow encryption by using https instead of http.
Regards
ThyMaster

Is there anything I can do to collect some data to help understand the source of the problem? I saw the same thing with the 4.4 beta 1 as well.twonky-christian wrote:the sort oder is done by album and than by track nr - for some reason the server seems not to find your album info
I'm running TwonkyMedia Server as a service on Windows XP, going to a Samba share running on a Fedora Core 4 Linux box. I'm able to access all of my mp3's just fine (as long as I don't attempt to simultaneously run the TwonkyMedia Server as a Windows service and then try to run the icon launcher), and most of the meta data show up fine on my PS3, but the track ordering seems not to.

What type of ID tags are you using? IDV1 IDV2?
Try something like MediaMonkey or TagAndRename to ensure your tags are good...

ID3V1, it looks like.mgillespie wrote:What type of ID tags are you using? IDV1 IDV2?

I'm using Grip on Linux, and I've got several thousand tracks.. rather too many to go around and manually redo. I've never had any issues with the ID3 tags before, with any software, so I'm not inclined to buy another piece of Windows software to try and 'fix' my mp3's.
Here's what id3info says about one of the tracks I mentioned:
*** Tag information for 01-still_water.mp3
=== TIT2 (Title/songname/content description): Still Water
=== TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Daniel Lanois
=== TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): Acadie
=== TYER (Year): 0
=== TRCK (Track number/Position in set): 1
=== COMM (Comments): (ID3v1 Comment)[XXX]: Created by Grip
=== TCON (Content type): (80)
*** mp3 info
MPEG1/layer III
Bitrate: 128KBps
Frequency: 44KHz
The only oddity I see is that the year was not set, but I've got other albums that have the year (and track number) set properly throughout, and they appear in random order on the PS3 using TwonkyMedia Server 4.4 beta 3 as well.

Speaking of which, could anyone test that mp3 served by Twonky, and tell if the Japanese tags within are displayed alright on the client?
http://videoff7.free.fr/mp3.rar
Here, using XP as server and PS3 as client, the japanese tags are completely fuxored (they display weird chinese characters instead).
When using Tversity to serve instead of Twonky, the tags are fine.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I have about 4TB of hidef mpeg2 .ts files. Only the stereo pcm encoded ones have sound when I play them. All the DD encoded files remain silent.riwi wrote:I got the PS3 to see Twonky. Also I can play Hidef .ts mpeg2 files however I have no sound.
Using my syabas based Snazio player there is normal (dolbyDigital) sound.
The PS3 produces perfect sound when playing BD, games with DD, mp3 etc.
I am using the optical connection from PS3 to my AV processor. I have enabled all sound formats (bitstream) in the PS3.
Does anyone else have this problem or can someone give me a hint where to look for a fix?
When playing the same files Twonky -> Snazio -> pre-amp sound is OK for DD, DTS and PCM.
Regards,
Three questions about the latest beta 4.4b3:
1> Is it possible to set the second port so that it points directly to the html music player rather than having to specify "/webbrowse"? For example, I would like to enter http://myip.org:9100 and it goes straight there. My reason, is so that my Showcenter can then access the html rather than the uPNP so I can see if it will work - it's how I access the PCast server on the Terastation HS I have. Could also be handy for other systems perhaps?
2> Still doesn't work very well with my Xbox 360. Is this fixable?
3> Why is this thread not in the "beta" topic of the forum?

Anyone noticed, how vocal the mac users are? You decided to buy a minority operating system, with limited software support, but shout the loudest......

What's wrong with minority's?
If you guys in the future just would be clear on what operating system's are getting an update. You wouldn't have people asking for it.
I'm a paying (mac) customer and what you're telling me is that your website is missleading?
Again i'm paying for mac support, so thats what i,m expecting and not jokes on OSX being a minority operating system, because is does not say any where on the TWONKY HOME PAGE THAT MAC USER'S GET LIMITED SOFTWARE SUPPORT NOW DOES IT ?
...you have no Idea. I've done development on/for Mac OSX, and they ... well, we, tend to very demandingmgillespie wrote:Anyone noticed, how vocal the mac users are? You decided to buy a minority operating system, with limited software support, but shout the loudest......
Think of many mac users as being people who got tired of being ignored or treated as dum when being Windows users, and now expecting respect. They know what they want, are quite(!) willing to pay for it and don't mind telling you about it.
All in all, I like them
(But, would it hurt putting dates/week-#s on the Beta page, so people get information instead of an error-page?)

OK thanks for the feedback. Hopefully this will be implemented in 1.90 or so. The PS3 plays a 38Mbit/sec mpeg2 file served by twonky without a glitch. It looks fantastic The Syabas player cannot handle it without stuttering. Also searching through the media list with the ps3 is very smooth.Video_newb wrote:Riwi, I'm 99 percent sure that you are out of luck for the time being. This is not a twonky thing, but a ps3 thing. Until a further firmware update adds the functionality, video files (not discs) do not support multichannel audio. I'm hoping on this one as well.

I don't work for Twonkyvision, I only moderate here. This is MY personal opinion, not Twonky's please don't confuse my opinions with that of TV's....THE REVENGE wrote:mgillespie wrote:Anyone noticed, how vocal the mac users are? If you went a bought a mac in the first place, don't come crying to PC owners that you can't get the software you need. Software support is the one single problem with owning a Apple Mac.....
Anyway, Christian mentioned a Mac update soon, so be patient....

i will take minority os any day over the shit that is windows os .. i switched 3 years ago and as a software dev i cannot be happier with my choice .. even though i dont think we should be bitching about beta availability it would be nice at least to not be tempted by the link on the beta page .. it creates anxiety
your opinions are valued but dont be an asshole about it.

having such a small marketshare, it's obvious 3rd party (non-apple) support is going to be inferior to Windows support. My point was, if you own a mac, you should be used to it, it's a mac fact of life.
As it is, I have never mentioned what OS I use (infact I use several), my Twonkyvision server runs Linux, and my desktops are various flavors of Windows/Linux.
As for giving solid advice, I think I do. It's usually along the lines of "Mac's are fine, if all you want to do is email, web, office and DTP, if you want to use it for anything else, forget it, get a PC". I think that's very sound advice. Not everyone uses their PC/MAC in the same way. As a developer myself, I personally wouldn't touch a mac with a bargepole, as developer IDE and language support is not too good on mac. However would I recommened a mac to my mother, who does simple tasks? perhaps....
The fact that mac owners are making such a fuss over bootcamp and being able to boot Windows on a mac, suggests many people are also feeling the strain of Mac software limitations..
Anyway, if you want to continue this discussion, lets start a new thread, as this is going way OT.... (My fault, I admit that...)

Hi,
sorry for the delay on the MAC.
The main problem is that MAC is so different that we can not cross compile for it as we do for most other systems.
We need to make the install/setup manually - which requires someone sitting at the MAC doing the job
We will bring the beta online within the next hour
