Anyone running TwonkyMedia ok on Vista with ZoneAlarm security suite?
My media player (Dlink DSM320) will talk to TM fine, load the menus as I defined in TM setup, but when I actually try to play some music, it just says playing, waits for 10secs, then moves on to the next song etc etc.
If I leave it running like this for some time, maybe 1/2-1 hour, then all of a sudden it starts actually playing and making sound.
I uninstalled ZA and it works fine.
I tried disabling all functions in ZA, same problem.
I tried manually setting up the port in ZA and other various manual settings. Sometimes when I muck around enough it suddenly starts working, and I can undo all the setting changes I made and it stays working. But reboot the PC and I'm back to square one.
Before installing ZA I had the windows firewall on and logged a post in the beta forum about opening port 9000 to get it working. With ZA installed, the windows firewall is off.
My old PC was windows XP and it all worked fine.
New PC has:
Vista Business 32
TwonkyMedia 4.4
I am an admin
TM running as aservice or app makes no difference
Anyone have any ideas??
Thanks heaps
Vista & ZoneAlarm
I'm having problems with Vista, ZoneAlarm & TwonkyVision too. Works fine until ZoneAlarm is installed then my DLink DSM-320 can see the files list but can't open video files to play. I also get very slow localhost access to the config pages with ZoneAlarm installed. ZoneAlarm doesn't let the Windows Media player server work either. I get the same problem.
I have contacted Zone Labs support about this problem. Will report back if they come up with a solution.

Thanks wellsie. Unfortunately, I wouldn't get too hopeful about ZA support. I have been corresponding for ages on this and they are being very lame, making suggestions about opening ports etc, all of which is superfluous considering I can simply drop all security levels to off in ZA, which doesn't solve the problem.
I have asked several times for them to acknowledge that they are aware of UPnP media server apps and that they know they do or don't work. They have not answered this question.
I said originally that the Twonkymedia menus load ok just media won't play. In fact, though the menus do load, they are VERY slow. Compare this to the same setup on XP and it all works well and fast.
I have asked the same question in the ZA forums. No answer as yet.
I can't believe I'm on the bleeding edge on this, it seems such a simple scenario: Vista/ZA/Media server app/Media player. No brainer surely?

You are right, DDK, Zone Labs support is pretty useless. They want me to disable every Windows service from starting up to see if it will then work. Then start them up again one by one to see which is causing the problem. Seems like work that they should be doing, not me, or that they should have done before releasing the product for Vista. I've been a loyal Zone Labs customer for many years but have been getting more and more disappointed in the product over the past few years.
Like you say, it works out of the box on XP. I'll let you know if I get anywhere, but as they can't seem to resolve the slow localhost access either I don't hold out much hope.
