What does iTunes add?

Post by twentw » Tue Mar 11, 2008 6:09 am

I can't figure out what access to the iTunes library adds. Twonky gets all of the relevant info simply by scanning the music directories, except for iTunes rating information. And I can't get Twonky to show the ratings. Is Twonky also supposed to show iTunes playlists?

Hi there,

i ve got the same problem and i try to research this now for a view hours but i ve not found any documetation about this feature.
I am looking for a solution where all my content is on hte NAS (ReadyNAS) and also Playlists which i create can be shared
through the Twonky. Also i want to use itunes (because of ipod/phone usage) and other m3u playlists for the windows world clients
and e.g. PS3 which could read the m3u s.

I fanybody knows more about this pls help
thanks
Kalle

I finally got Twonky to recognize playlists, although I don't know how. It just showed up eventually. Which is a problem I have with Twonky - it's a bit buggy trying to configure things. But once it gets configured, it seems to be solid.

I also had trouble getting playlists to appear. What it seems to be is that the playlists are not built until all of your songs are indexed. If you have 5,000 mp3 files like me than this can take 10 to 15 minutes. So the first time your music is indexed and perhaps when you music is re-indexed you will find the playlists don't appear until all songs are first indexed from the ITunes xml file. Playlists in the ITunes xml file only include references to ID numbers of music files in ITunes not the path to the mp3 files themselves. This is why I think the mp3 files must be indexed before the playlists can be built and displayed.

You can keep tabs of the progress of the music track index building from the TwonkyVision status page available through the ReadyNas RAIDator admin pages.

When the "Music Tracks" count stops going up you should see the that playlists start to appear. Better still you can test this from the "Web Access" icon available at the top of the same page without having to run from the east wing to the west wing of the house to check what the PS3 can see or not.

By the way I'm running 4.4.6 Twonky.
