Twonky 4.4.5 for PC and NAS -> Problem with SLA5500

Post by niko!!! » Tue Aug 05, 2008 4:58 pm

Dear all,

I have a Raidsonic NAS4220 with Twonky running on it. Parallely I have a Twonky server running on my computer. Both are version 4.4.5. As clients I am using three SLA5500 and a Zyxel DMA1000. Router is a FritzBox 3170. Both Twonkies recognize the SLA5500 and the DMA1000 correctly. Two issues now:

1. Whereas the Twony running on the computer skips the first screen on the SLA5500s (the screen where you can choose between music, photos and videos) and jumps directly to the music screen, the Tonky running on the NAS does not do this but starts with the first screen.
2. Whereas the Twonky running on my PC works perfect with all my clients, the Twonky running on the NAS (the latest version from the Raidsonic homepage) has problems with the SLA5500s. The DMA1000 (hardwired) can connect to the server and play all the content. The SLA5500s (all three) show the server and I can browse through all menus. But when I choose a MP3 to play, the client only shows "Connecting..." for a very long time an then shows a screen "Servererror". I am not able to stream any MP3 from the server although the servers shows them all.

It does not seem to be a WLAN problem, as the Twonky on the computer stream perfect. It also does not seem to be a general problem with the NAS as the DMA1000 can stream all contents including MP3. Anypone out there who may be able to help?

Thank you for your help!

EDIT2: Although I thougt that the 2nd issue has been solved, it has not. Sometimes it works with the SLA5500, most times not. If it works, than the playback stops after some time. I have now also tried a NOXON 2 Audio. With this device everything works like a charm. It therefore seems that it is the working together between the NAS4220 Version of Twonkymedia and the Philips SLA5500! Any idea why there seems to be a difference between the NAS and PC (WIndows XP) Version?
EDIT3: Yesterday I tried to minimize my MP3 collection (normally > 50,000 titles) by excluding some folders to ca 6,000 titles. Et voila, it seems to work. The problem therefore seems to be the NAS4220 Twoky in connection with the huge MP3 collection. Reminder: The same amount of MP3s does not pose any problem with the Twonky running on my PC.

Solved!

Main Part is solved! Although still not fully logical for me, the problem has been limited bandwidth in the WLAN network. I tried to use three 11 MBIT devices, two of them relatively far away from the access point, in one network. Installed a second access point on the first floor, now everything works!
