OT - Received SPAM on my uniquely reg'ed e-mail address

Post by Roaster » Fri Jan 29, 2010 6:25 pm

Hi,
did this happen to others as well?

During the order process at Digital River I've given them a very unique e-mail address (twonkymedia@die-....de), created for the single purpose of registering Twonkymedia Server. This e-mail address was not used anywhere else. Today I got a spam mail to this address:
http://sacleirt.com but i dont want to do anything else either Reading about different Twitter clients for Macs Opera tango theme, not bad at all Just became a follower of teamslipstream on
think I need a little more sleep More stuff to do She& 8217 s Getting Out
Was Twonykmedia hacked? Do they even sell e-mail addresses? Or is there any security hole at Digital River?

I do the same with my email address, and never seen any problems. There could be lots of areas for compromise, including your local computer... Have you scanned it with a reputable and upto date spyware and virus scanner?

I don't know why this is happening, but I can tell you that Twonkymedia has not been hacked (at least not in the two years, I've been here) and we HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER sell e-mail addresses to anyone.

I'd also be very surprised if there is there any security hole at Digital River.

Thanks for your reply.

I can confirm that my virus scanner is up to date and did not encounter any problems. Over years now I did not have any issues with trojans or similar. The e-mail is not stored elsewhere. The e-mail I've used is really unique as mentioned above.

My domain is not online, I'm just using it for e-mail purposes.

No clue where this spam derives from :-(

Hi
About 2 weeks ago I also suddenly started getting spam at my unique Twonky adress too. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Afraid Twonky can not just say it was not them:
- my email has several hundred unique emails, and none of the others were effected
- I'm an IT Consultant: pro hardware firewalls anti virus and spam measures everywhere on my kit, nothing would get through without me knowing
- I have seen a few other customers on forums around the same time saying the same hit them

This is absolutely no possible way this is occuring because of anything PacketVideo or TwonkyMedia has done.

I have e-mail addresses that are never given out, and they get spam all of the time.

OK,

let's do a test then. I've just posted a change request for my e-mail address, hopefully they will change it ASAP.

Let's see when new spam mails arrive. Again I've used a very unique e-mail address which cannot be build upon merging some words from a dictionary or from any other source.

Why don't you create another e-mail address that is similar to the first one, but NOT send it to us as a test. I predict you'll get spam on both after a few weeks.
