TMS, PS3 & Inconsistent 'Unsupported Data' Messages

I'm having a bit of a problem when adding new video files to my media folders.

I have found that all my video files will play on the PS3, however, some of them will only work after a complete rebuild of the database. For example, when I add a new video file to one of the appropriate folders, I can then see it through the media server menus in the PS3. However, occasionally, a newly added file (e.g. an xvid) will show up but when I try to play it I get the message "this data type is not supported".

If I access a problem file via the twonky web browser interface in the PS3 browser it works fine which confirms PS3 has no problem with the video format etc.

If I carry out a full rebuild of the folders through the maintenance screens I find that the file will play perfectly well the next time I try it!

If I try to play the file in something like xbmc through upnp it works fine so presumably it is something PS3 specific, although the fact that a rebuild helps suggests there is some sort of parameter that the PS3 is interested in that isn't being reported correctly when first scanned that other DLNA players are less pernickety about....?

I'm wondering:
1) if anyone else experiences this problem
2) Is there any way to prevent this happening in the first place
3) if there is a way to force one particular file to be rescanned in the library (as it takes ages to fully rescan)

I too have this problem. Running 5.1.1 from a MSS.

Thought I was the only one.

That's good to know, in a roundabout way!

I'm now using the internet browser in the PS3 to navigate to newly added files through the twonky media browser pages and every so often running a full rescan overnight.

Why is it so hard for a standard to just work on all these different machines!?!?

There must be some minor difference in the auto scan info passed back that the PS3 is particular about but no other receivers seem to worry about.

I've tried switching off the auto scan and forcing the rescan (not rebuild) option from the webpage but newly added files don't appear in the media menus when doing this - only the browser navigation.

Cheers
