Sony Bravia DLNA / QNAP 259 NAS / Twonky Problem

Post by binar » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:56 am

Fellow forum members,
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-55EX711 with DLNA and connected to a QNAP 259 NAS device that runs Twonky Media Server which I acces through my online Administrator account for my Qnap Nas device. The only files I can presently view on my Bravia are just JPG files. Selecting the Twonkey videos folder on my Bravia displays this message: "There are no items to display". I using MPG files and therefore should be compatible with my SONY dlna. I updated to the latest Sony Bravia firmware, and I still can't see my MPG files. All I can see are JPG files. I have spent a lot of time with the Twonky interface that is accessible from an Administrator website for my QNAP NAS device with no success. What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone out there please give me some tips on what else I can try to fix this problem. Any info will be greatly appreciated. THanks.

I'm not a Sony expert, but I know on some Sony products, like my Blu-Ray player hide all files that contain unsupported codecs. In my case, that means no video files are shown. One way to test this is convert one of your files to MPEG2. If that works, you might want to look into enabling transcoding.

Rick thanks for the post. I got on TwonkyMedia Server and checked out the Transcoding options. It displays as shown below:

Transcode videos to:
MPEG2
WMV
MPEG4
Flash
However, what I can't figure out is why it's disabled. All the checkboxes are grayed out. I can't apply a checkmark on any of the checkboxes. Do you RIck, or does anyone out there have any idea why my Transcoding options are locked out. Any info will be appreciated?.. THANKS

Forgot to mention I tried out an application called WinMPG Video Convert . I converted a WMV video file to MPEG 2. ussing this app. I finally got some success. My Sony Bravia Twonky app fully recognized a video on my NAS and it plays it. The file extention on the converted WMV video now displays as MPG. This I find confusing. Shouldn't the new extension be MPEG2 ? Apparently, my problem seems to be a file format problem. My Sony bravia only accepts MPEG2. The option of converting all my videos to the MPEG2 format is not possible because I have too many vidoes. However, the Twonky transcoding option is something I would like to know more about. Does Twonky transcoding convert AVI, Xvid, Divx, Mov, etc. . . to MPEG2 automatically? How do I activate it because currently my Transcoding options are locked out. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

According to this

[urlhttp://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/ ... KDL55EX711[/url]
NOTE: Files from the network must be in the following formats:
* Still images : JPEG format
* Music : MP3 or Linear PCM format
* Video : AVCHD or MPEG 2 format
So yeah your manually converted videos worked

But the question is where idid the original files come from?
Were they from dvd rips, camcorder, or other ?
Have you tried to use mediainfo on the original files to determine the actual video/audio codecs used in them?
