Hi
Just thought I'd relay some of my adventures with Twonky and Western Digital, and see if anyone has any suggestions as to the problems I've been having.
OK, so I bought a WD MyBook World Edition 1Tb a couple of years ago, specifically to serve media files to my Roku Soundbridge and PS3 - my music files are stored as AAC files, and video as .vob files.
At this point, the MBWE had twonky 4.4(ish) and everything was fine. Music played on the Roku, video played on the PS3, and I could get coverart for the video files by using filename.jpg for each video file.
The comes the big mistake, upgrading the firmware on the MBWE. This upgraded to Twonky 5.something, which would not stream music to the Roku, and wouldn't serve video coverart. After lots of playing around, and trying other combinations of media servers, I bit the bullet and bought a license for Twonky6.023 (?), hacked the MBWE and installed it myself. Great news, and can now access files on a USB drive attached to the MBWE, but whilst I can now stream music to the Roku, I can't stream AAC only .mp3
And still no cover art!
So, strip out all of the existing twonky, and re-install 4.4 (something).
Now, MOST aac files can be served to the roku but not all. In fact, if I upload a CD to the MBWE using iTunes, quite often some tracks can be served to the Roku and the others come up with an 'unable to play' error message. And, after many happy hours putting in the appropraite cover art files, I onlt got the pretty pictures on my PS3 for about a week, and after that I just get the generic video file icon.
I do not understand!
Should I just (once again) strip out the Twonky and reinstall?
I may be shallow, but I have to say that I really want video cover art on my PS3 - it looks pretty!
