Twonkyserver 6.0.37, NSLU2 and MP101 problem

Post by andshack » Sun Nov 20, 2011 2:45 pm

Hi there,

I have been using TwonkyServer 3.1 with my MP101 and unslung NSLU2 for the last 6 years with no problems. I recently had a hard disk crash so had to rebuild the NSLU2 and took the opportunity to upgrade to the latest unslung firmware (V2.3R63-uNSLUng-6.10-beta) and also the latest TwonkyServer 6.0.37. Since then I have intermittent problems with playback on the MP101. The music will stop playing, then hang for about 60 seconds before moving on to the next track and playing again. The MP101 has a fixed IP address, configured in Twonky with MP101 RTP, the NSLU2 has a fixed IP address. The MP101 is in wireless mode, and strangely if I try it in wired mode it cannot find the Twonky server (and I cannot ping it). There does not appear to any pattern, although it will play fine for about 10 minutes before stopping, then resuming on the next track. I have trawled the forum and I have seen this as a problem, but this problem has only started since upgrading, there has been no change to the network config. I have tried many things and am now at a loss. Any help/suggestions much appreciated. Many thanks,

Andrew

Re: Twonkyserver 6.0.37, NSLU2 and MP101 problem ** FIXED **

Hi,

OK after fiddling about a bit more I "think" I have fixed it. Increasing the streambuffer size seems to have done it - been streaming without any freezes/pauses/glitches for about 2 hours now ...

Anyone who wants to try this, this is what I did:

Edit the twonkyserver-config.ini found in /var/twonkymedia/twonkymedia and change the streambuffer=2048576

Happy happy happy :-)

A 2GB stream buffer = WOW!

I had to do something like that a while back on my WHS
As the disks werent fast to enought to stream multiple HD videos
I have since upgraded to WD Black 7200rpm drives
and have not had to change the streambuffer from the default since

Glad to see you got it working

mmmmm ok looks like I spoke to early .... back to freezing and skipping every 5 minutes ... damn. Am now starting to think it may be a router issue so will try looking at that ...

Since TWS 4.x the MP101 is not working any more :(

I tried a lot of things - but at the end: no success.

The sad truth is that some devices work much better than others. Even when the MP101 was new, it wasn't a great media player. I believe this issue is MP101-related and not a Twonky problem.
