We just uploaded the portal version of Twonky 7 for Windows, Mac OS and Linux (PC) .

You can download v7.0.1 here:

This is a special version of TwonkyServer that was created for our myTwonky portal. It does not require a license key but does require that you log-in to the portal page every 24 hours.

UPDATE: MyTwonky now requires you log-in once every ten days, not every 24 hours.

Sounds very interesting, but p'se add a bit more info:
"Not requiring a Licence key" means?
A somewhat limited server - beside the login-issue?
Will it work with current license - without the loginissue?
That is: what do one risc substutiting the working v 6.0.37?
Is any chance the remote-access will work?
Other issues?

I know with 7.0.0 using my 6.x key
It did not matter, it would still make you log in
and when that 24 hour expired, even with the key (added in the ini)
it stopped working and had to log in

I do not know if this is the case with 7.0.1
But, if I was a betting man, I'd say the scenario is the same

Hmm, popped in looking for NAS builds of 7.01, as I am particularly interested in a couple of fixes that Burkhard told me was going into the 7 stream.

However I don't like the sound of the forced login, it sounds like it might be a backwards step...

Why the need for a log in? My mediaserver PC doesn't have an Internet connection....

If Twonky succeeds in making remote access work, it is an ok decision, especially if it is going to be a settingparameter.
But I understand this login is a betafunctionality, working untill release, securing the beta will not compeete ??

I view the login differently

1.
I am guessing, but I think it is going to only be a requirement
for the Free version of Twonky Server
and Not a paid version of Twonky Server

2.
The login makes sense from the myTwonky perspective
In that it is a Free web portal service
that has added functionality via Twonky Server
in that one can aggregate media into the web portal
and vice versa, into the Twonky Server

3.
I think that the intended audience is for it to be installed on a users computer
and not from a nas or homeserver device
even thought it could be, you would still have to login with the Free version

If you think about
On one hand the login is being used to link local and remote media
One is Free, hence the 24 hour forced login
One is going to be the Paid version, aka:Twonky Server Premium
I highly doubt that the paid version is going to have this requirement

What I would like to know...

are current licensed users going to be able to upgrade to twonky server 7 premium for free?

what new features would entice people to purchase it besides the non-forced login ability?

so when you are remote you, could log into mytwonky to stream remote content
and or create users or share it with other family members etc?

Well I would not expect this to be a new feature in v7.
As I read previous statements, this should be functioning since v5, and I upgraded just because of this feature.
However there are some simple programming bugs, at least in 6.0.37, making remote access impossible.
(At least in my definition of remote access (= from wan)). From lan it works just fine, but to what purpose, as DLNA works better and is LaN standard?

I havent played around with the remote access features in 6.x that are carried over from 5.x
and have seen the posts about the ups/downs ins/outs through each version

I would agree that the feature should be fixed

What I described as a new feature from a v7 perspective, if it is to be a feature
would be in addition to the current idea of remote access
The current way is you would open up a url that is to the ip of your router
The way it could be an added benefit is if this was extended even further
if one chose to, when one logged into mytwonky it would have the remote server there
like it is currently now for lan access, but would be also be there when you are remote

The web interface access for media for me is used on my home lan for the devices
that do not directly have dlna support or is possible with some free/paid apps
for ex it is great for ipod touch/ipad acess and from a pc
when one wants to copy a video for the road
or for when the kids have there freinds over
I dont have to muck with user accounts for them to get access to a share
to consume stuff on those devices

I do offer you this though,
previously, I wrote a post on how to run multiple instances of twonky
for the purpose of either being able to segment out media access
and to make one for a remote access only config
sadly, 6.x removed a parameter called -nossdp
which one could create a web only version of a twonky server no dlna at all =)
it would not broadcast itself on the network
which could be used with different configs for remote access
this is still possible, but you could/would use a 5.x version for remote access only
and then use your 6.x locally

The way I read Can I run TwonkyManager/TwonkyServer at the same time as Twonky 7.0? and I already have TwonkyManager/TwonkyServer 6.x, do I still need Twonky 7.0? in the FAQ, installing both in parallel seems to be the best option (at least for now).

Great job, The new html browser is better than the flash one though the square thumbnails (myLibraryMediaIcon) in the video browser could use some tweaking



I modified the file New.css

Uninstalled after some minutes (Mac OS X Lion).

I upgraded from latest 6.x build.

It still does not transcode videos on Mac OS X.

Logging in into myTwonky is a nuisance.

Since I have never used the browser view it is totally useless for me.

Would keep it if it accepted my old license key.
