2 Family Lan, one Twonky - How to seperate the Movies/Pic/..

Post by Karsten » Fri Dec 30, 2011 12:21 am

Hi,

i hope i'm not the first user asking it but i was unable to find any infos about my topic yet.

Situation:

2 Families using the same Network and Networksegment with one central WHS Server running Twonky on it.

As Family "A" dont want to show all Pictures and Movies to Family "B" the topic contect seperation popped up.
Acutally we have seperate users and its not an issue with SMB.

Now as both have DLNA avtivated TV's we wondering how to seperate it.

First idea was to share specific Directories to a specific DLNA client, but i cant find such an option on the market / within my favorite product Twonky ;)

Quesitons:
1. Is there any idea around how to get this working?
2. I read something about an config file, but i was unable to find infos about it...

There isn't any built in way of doing that.

Depending on the network, and the operating system you're running Twonky on, you could theoretically run 2 copies of Twonky, each configured to serve the media only from one family's directories (using different ports). Then configure the firewall on the server to only allow access to the relevant family's IP range.

Is somewhere a guide available about how to start 2 instances with seperate config files?

You can use the -inifile command line argument to provide the path to a second ini file.

Btw, as i#m running a second instance of the product - do i need to purchase two licenses or is it a per physical Server license?

i Checked the website bud didnt find an officical answer for it (Except one in another post telling 3 Servers can run with one license key?)

I've run multiple instances on one host before without problems, so you should be fine.
