Twonky 7 Custom Trees

Hi,

I just wanted to make a post to thank the Twonky team for taking the time to make it even harder to create custom navigation trees in Twonky Server version 7.

I think it's brilliant that the containers created by the user (with unique 'groupid') which worked perfectly in previous versions no longer can be pointed to by the XXXXX.view.xml files... Regardless of whether it's a custom XXXXXX.view.xml or one of the pre-packaged ones, by using the standard "<link groupid=video/BLAHBLAH' />"

It was also extremely well thought out to make it such that the tree selection dropdowns for the individual devices dont show the custom trees in the dropdown box unless the user edits the config.js file, and changes the getReceiverViewDropdown function.

Oh, and let's not forget about having a blank in the main tree selection page unless one modifies the strings-en.json file.

In order to get things back to the way I like them in v6.0.38, I basically had to butcher the 'id='video/rating' container, change the name, and stick my (working) sub-tree in there.... And it worked... :/ sigh.

Another full version increase, another full step back when it comes to the basics.

I think for v8 Twonky should fully integrate with twitter and facebook, but make the above files binary so that the user stands no chance.

Oh, and it's great that the PS3 doesnt get album art sent to it correctly anymore... Whether it's embeded in an mp4, or a Folder.jpg file.... Great to have old bugs keep coming back! +1 for that.

Honestly, after so many years, it looks like it's about time I give the other guys a long look. Won't say which free server, but honestly, Twonky should take a good look at what S???iio is doing, and take a page out of that book.

I found another a work around to deal with the loss of groupid
Its that same tactic's as in ver 6.x
but I have added a lot of web interface tweaks too
