Is there a reason that there is no Linux x86 glibc 2.2.5 build available for download?

Hi Rik,
I've upgraded in my Wd Mybook world edition II without problem all versions of TS, but this 7.0.5 doesn't work. Some files are different. Until now to upgrade my Nas i used a shh connection and in the root entered in Twonky directory. han i deleted all files and copied all the files in twonkymedia-mss2-6.0.39.zip (the last update) in the directory.

How can i do now?
Thank you

Hi Ric

you need to rename the start file. I use a MBL 3TB without problems.
Version 6.039:
/usr/local/twonkymedia/twonkymedia

Version 7.05:
/usr/local/twonky/twonkystarter

Easiest, rename twonkystarter to twonkymedia

Installing now.

A couple of things I noticed:

-appdir is not fully obeyed, it creates some stuff in /var/twonky/ (and if these directories aren't there, it logs some errors to screen)

twonkymedia-server.ini is now called twonkyserver.ini so it didn't pickup my settings and licence by default, I had to rename the file.

The supplied init script doesn't work on Debian, 'killall' is not recognized. hacked it to use pkill and see how I get on.

Most importantly, now this is released for NAS, will it stay in sync with the releases? 7.0.7 is mentioned already, will that be a Win/Mac/Linixx86/NAS cross platform simultaneous release?

Do the NAS builds work with MyTwonky?

I have the server running, but the MyTwonky page says it's not connected and refeshing does not help;

"Already installed Twonky 7.0? Check that it is running on your computer and try refreshing this page."

Not really knowing what MyTwonky is, it's hard to know what it should be doing...

@mgillespie

I havent tried TS7 on a nas yet, maybe today or tommorow I'll attempt on on WD Live 3tb

There is the myTwonky.com or my.twonky.com
and there is myTwonky the container in TS7

http ://my.twonky.com/content/mylibrary

The myTwonky.com has the my library option under MPV from top navbar
if you clicked on mylibrary from either of these,
it should see/list any servers running on you network,
as long as the browser is running on that local netwwork, wont do it remotely

Image

The myTwonky TS7 does 2 things, that I know of
It uses a myTwonky container under Music Photo Video

1. it will populates them with the featured and popular containers from myTwonky.com
2. if your server is registered it will also populate them with your My Stuff favorites from myTwonky.com

i have also successfully installed twonky 7.0.5 to my linkstation live :) Everything runs smooth and fine.

however i also noticed my.twonky.com doesn't recognize the server running on my NAS.

But i quess it's known by the producers, isn't it?

some off-topic question:

will mytwonky soon be able to create own playlists via the webinterface (have some kind of musicplayer)? Or to be able to put my mp3s in queue like googlemusic does?

atm when i play a song, it starts the quicktime webplayer for me. I know it's all still beta :) just curious.

Here is a possible solution for the NAS folks trying to register there server

I did a little digging and noticed that the register button calls a popup based off of this rpc

http ://localhost:9000/rpc/portal_page?register
or
http ://<server ip>:9000/rpc/portal_page?register

what it returns is this

https://my.twonky.com/register/device?ott=<a really big hash>

Open that return in a browser
and log in with your mytwonky account
and your server should now be registered
an now you wont have to log in again from a server perspective
and you'll now get the My Stuff under myTwonky
that you see and create on my.twonky.com

Note: if you wait to long, the hash generated will time out
and you have to use the rpc call again to get a new one

this worked in the windows version havent tested nas yet, need to instal on my wd to find out

Here are some more rpc calls to look at for status

/rpc/get_portal_info
/rpc/get_portal_info?onlineStatus
/rpc/get_option?portalusername

and to de-register

/rpc/portal_disassociate

FWIW

I just got done installing twonky-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-special-7.0.5.zip on a WD mybook live

I checked the register server functionality
I got the popup with the url and huge hash
I did see the Download free Twonky 7.0 to make your Twonky account even better!"
I waited about 30 seconds, and the server appeared in my library on my.twonky.com
and the local server showed as registered "You are logged in as phibertron"

my.twonky.com doesn't work for me with the NAS version.

the status of twonky says:

You are logged in as "Username" .

i also tried to copy the link with the has and logged in successfully. But my.twonky.com still says:

Already installed Twonky 7.0? Check that it is running on your computer and try refreshing this page. -> so it won't recognize it.

I found following solution for my MyBookLive:

I installed on my laptop the Twonky Server special 7.05 version too.
If you are connected to twonky.com with your accound and the NAS+Laptop Twonky Server is running you can see both Server on "MyLibary".
My own MyTwonky Bookmarks and playlists are available on my NAS TV after some time.

Not working here on the Kirkwood build.

http://192.168.1.6:9000/rpc/portal_page?register

just gives me a blank page, no popup or anything.

@00170

yes that works. But it isn't a solution for me and most likely for others as well, since the computer has to be always on.

if i disable the computerserver, the nas server is gone as well.

and another bug is, that i only can access my photo and video library. Music isn't working.

Re: TwonkyServer 7.0.5 NAS builds are now available for down

Post by phibertron » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:51 am

It got me to thinking, how does the myTwonky.com know that I have a TS7 server running on my network

I peeked and poked it a bit, and found out that one of the things it relies on is nmcmode

By default it is usually set to 1

# NMC mode (0:disable, 1:stationary, 2:mobiledirect, 4:standalone)
nmcmode=1

If it is set to 0, then myTwonky.com will not see your server
If you then set it to 1, and then restart the server, myTwonky.com will see it again
I tested this on a windows vm, still need to look at a nas
So I wonder if on the nas builds what nmcmode is set to

note:
when set it to 1, i see an additional twonky upnp server on the network
when set it to 4, I dont see that additional twonky upnp server on the network

if the firewall is off on the vm
i see the following upnp devices on the network

Twonky Server 7.0.5
myTwonky Beam Connector
Twonky Webdav-Server
TwonkyProxy

I wonder if the problem with the nas builds also has to do with any firewall settings on the nas if there are any

I know that TwonkyServer 7.0.6 is supposed to fix some registration problems reported in the Linux section of this forum. I'm guessing that update might help with some of the issues reported here as well. As you probably know, TwonkyServer 7.0.6 is not yet available, but should be available soon. Once 7.0.6 is available you can update to the new version.

In the meantime, I'm told that you can solve the problem by installing the current TwonkyServer manually (use the .zip-file not the .sh-script). Before the new installation you have to go to /var/TwonkyServer (when executed as root) or to ~/.twonky/TwonkyServer (when executed as user) and delete the twonkyserver.ini-file.

These directions appear a little vague to me, so if this doesn't work for you, you'll have to wait until the official version of 7.0.6 appears.

I finally got some answers for this earlier questions:
Stormy1987 wrote:...

The ability to bookmark local content and create things like music playlists is in place is our code. TS and our client support pv:bookmark. However we still need to do a little work before you can utilize these bookmarks directly in playlists. That work might start in May, but an exact date has not been set yet.
atm when i play a song, it starts the quicktime webplayer for me. I know it's all still beta :) just curious.
QT is not embedded and we do not currently offer the option to download the local music. Local music playback is done inside the browser (Flash, Silverlight, HTML5). MP3, AAC, M4A and WMA file formats should be supported.

Never managed to get TwonkyServer 7.05 Kirkwood working with MyTwonky.com

On my server it's showing it as being registered, but on mytwonky it's not showing.

I deleted the INI file and started again (copying only my CD Key, and shared from my old INI), there were some things missing, and it's now doing a bit more than before, but still not talking.

Do I need to add any firewall rules?

I am running twonky-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-special-7.0.5 on a wd mbl
and did not have to do anything special to get it to work with mytwonky
when I first tried it, I had a 7.0.5 running in a vm, that was already talking to mytwonky
so it could have skewed my results
so i went back and checked things with the vm turned off
then turned on the wd mbl

the one thing I know for sure, is that mytwonky.com needs nmcmode to be 1, 2, or 4
or it will not see the server on mytwonky.com

I dont think its a firewall problem, as long as 9000 is open
and that the upnp broadcasting is open
and that you can see the server from a dlna client

I did notice that port 9055 is not working on my wd mbl
not sure if the twonkyproxy is not running, or if its being blocked
will have to go do some digging

For Ex: this fails

TS 7.0.5 is running on the development Linkstation Pro. No major issues so far, I could even register to myTwonky and this registration survives restarts.
There is a funny thing with myTwonky, though: The content of my productive Twonky server running 6.0.39 is also displayed within myTwonky/myLibrary, though I didn't register that server and aggregation is switched off on both systems. :o

Does 6.0.39 also have myTwonky capabilities built in or is the 7.0.5 system handing the content forward (despite the switched off aggregation)? :?

And so far I didn't get the video-thumbnail generation working. I used the same procedure as for 6.0, generated a ffmpeg.location file and set the time (-itsoffset) value in ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc to a fixed value...

@Georg

As far as I can tell myTwonky.com site looks for TS7 via NMC if it is off nmcmode=0
then it will not find it, or any other server
As far as it seeing the other servers, I think that TS7 is passing along that it sees
the other server, based on upnp broadcasts, as I have NMC turned off on my TS6 server
and it will still see it, that is when the TS7 server is on it will

I too noticed that the myTwonky.com site will allow one to see other twonky servers on the local network
even if they are not version 7
I actually think that myTwonky.com works better with a version 6 server than it does with a version 7 server
but thats a whole nother ball of bits
But it does beg the question, why are they forcing us to use version 7 on mytwonky.com?

I havent put ffmpeg on my WD MBL, but I have on a windows version of TS7
and on the win version it is working
note:
it is possible to put ffmpeg in the cgi-din dir
and not use a location file, as it will find it without it if you do that =)
