Twonky server on Buffalo TeraStation Pro Duo TS-WVH 6TB HELP

Hi,

I have a reasonable home cinema setup.

All appliances are DLNA compatible and if I run Twonky server on my laptop, I get no problems.

The problems started when I bought the Tera-station and tried to use the built in media server to stream music and video both to the PS3 or the AV unit. All I got was constant disconnects.

I want to use Twonky media server but do not want to use the laptop.

It should be possible to use the NAS with twonky installed on it, but this is where my issue begins.

I have found the page http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/5.1.1/

But I am not sure what version to use, these are my options:

Buffalo TeraStation
Buffalo TeraStation Homeserver
Buffalo TeraStation Pro (PPC)
Buffalo TeraStation Pro (ARM)
Buffalo TeraStation Live

Obviously I think either of the pro ones are my best bet, but I am unable to find out what architecture the NAS runs on. It has a Intel Atom 1.66GHz CPU so do I go for the ARM or PPC?

The read-me on the PPC version states:

"The Buffalo TeraStation Pro runs the Linux Operating System
based on a PowerPC processor (PowerPC 603)"

which it is not, and I'm sure it isn't ARM? Maybe I'm wrong??

Please help, I really don't want to brick my NAS and having not done this before I need some guidance please.

Thanks

After looking here http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Main_Page I cant see my NAS listed at all?

I can however see:

Buffalo TeraStation
Buffalo TeraStation Homeserver
Buffalo TeraStation Pro (PPC)
Buffalo TeraStation Pro (ARM)
Buffalo TeraStation Live

So if my NAS is not listed on the Twonky site. Which one do I use?

Also If I try one of them will I risk bricking my NAS?

Thanks

does it or does it not have twonky currently installed?
if it is installed, is the version that came with it from the vendor via firmware?

trying to guess or assume what it is or is not, is like throwing darts

in any case, you will need a key, if and when you get this working
as the ones from the vendor dont use a key
if you upgrade, to one you download, then youll need a key

Buffalo TeraStation Pro Duo TS-WVH

from what I can see,it looks like, that device is possibly running windows and not linux
not sure though, as there site talks about WS and TS version of the nas
but in any case, it is on an intel cpu, nor arm or ppc

which If I had to assume then would mean you might need one of these

Linux setup package (including install script)
Linux x86 (for manual installation)

I may be wrong but I have seen no mention of Twonky in the system for the NAS, it just merely states "Enable media server" in the extension options for the box. There is also squeezebox server but I have not had much to say about squeezebox.

The media server on the device is terrible. If it worked then it be sweet as my Onkyo and my PS3 see it and are able to play audio from it but it will just cut out after a few tracks on both devices. Maybe it is my network?

How do I go about getting keys for the TS? I have seen keys on a wiki somewhere but these are for every Buffalo NAS except this one? I honestly think if I can get Twonky on there i'm sorted.................

Hi, i'm a little confused. You say the NAS is running windows, yet you point me to a linux setup package?

Could you please explain?

Thanks

I dont own the product, just trying to help
I'd assume you know more about your device than me
So I can only go on what info you gave, and what I see on the net

Based on the "possibly" being not windows
and your device being an intel proc
I would not reccommend using an ARM or PCC version
hence the x86 reccomendation
Newer TS versions here downloads/7.0.5-Special/
And yes there are newer versions, but your post reference 5.1.1
So as to not even go to the point of introducing even further confusion
I didnt bother, as what version to use is still unknown
no point in picking a version, if you dont know which type of a given version to choose
