Display Content "By Folder" is broken

Post by kellman » Mon May 07, 2012 3:24 am

I could use everyone's help as I have searched Google until my fingers are numb looking for an answer or solution to this bug/problem.

The Twonky Media Library is not displaying contents of my media "by folder" but rather as "all videos".

Both menu options are displayed correctly as follows:

Videos
> All Videos
> By Folder

Yet clicking on "by folder" displays the same result as the one labelled as "all videos".

This is the hyperlink pointing to "All Videos"
http://192.168.100.112:9000/webbrowse/O0$3$28

This is the hyperlink pointing to "By Folder"
http://192.168.100.112:9000/webbrowse/O0$3$35

The problem first started after upgrading from Twonky Server NAS 6.0.39 to NAS 7.0.5 Special, on a WD MyBook Live 2 TB. I have since downgraded back to version 6.0.39 but the problem still exists.

example of my folder structure below:

\\myboooklive\Public\Shared Video

I have created these sub category folders:

- Movies
- Kids
- Television

These "category folders" are no longer visible when I click the Menu "by folder". Instead all files are combined and presented together in one long alphabetical listing... exactly like you get when you click on "All Videos".

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried a database rebuild yet?

There is a way to do that in the settings interface
You can accomplish this with an rpc call

Code: Select all

Hi,

The version on the Mybookworld is a OEM version. When you initially upgraded to 6.0.39 did the folder view work?

I just ran into something similiar on the WD MBL

I went from 5.x to 7.0.5
When I did that, I did it the lazy way, and just renamed the folder twonkymedia-5 to twonkymedia-5old
then created a new folder for twonkymedia-5
and then copied version 7.0.5 into that folder
and then renamed twonkystarter to twonkymedia
which did work for my needs at the time

then I just did the same thing for 7.0.5 to 7.0.8
which is where I saw some chaos creep in

What I did to rresolve the issue was to go to the folder in which twonky keeps server.ini db and cache etc.
and deleted everything, and all was well again

If I was a betting man, I bet the issue is related to what I saw, in the way I induced it, by the way I installed it

Hi Philbertron.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I did try the rebuild database option with no luck.

So, after pulling out almost all of my hair on this issue, I decided to return the WD Mybook Live 2TB back to Costco and exchange it for new one. Guess what?

I booted up the new drive and left it running with the default WD out of the box Firmware Version 02.10.12-129.
Next I checked the version of Twonky Server running and confirmed it is version 5.1.9.

Next, I Loaded all my media files and folders and guess what?

VOILA! All folders are now showing properly once again. Woohoo!!

But wait.

Lastly, I decide to get rid of that annoying reminder from WD that a new firmware upgrade is available and proceeded to update from Version 02.10.12-129 to the newest 02.11.09-053.

Guess what?

The firmware upgrade broke my folder structure / views once again.

Would it be fair to say that the problem is with Western Digital firmware and not the Twonky Server updates all along?

Hard to say, if its the WD 5.19 on the newest firmware
I just did the FW upgrade and didnt see that issue
before FW update, I was running 7.0.8
after FW update it whacked that and put on 5.1.9
So my steps arent the same as yours, but the idea is

Im in the middle of a Factory Restore, as I wanted a clean start with all the mucking I do with it
which is gonna be a few hours to complete

take a look at deleteing the contents of the following folder
the following are the same thing

/DataVolume/cache/twonkymedia
/CacheVolume/twonkymedia

I had remedied an issue I saw when going from 7.0.5 to 7.0.8
by deleteing all of the files and folders in there
