Hi All, this has probably been asked and answered a thousand times but here goes.....

I have a Buffalo LS-XL Linkstation, now upgraded to Firmware 1.60 and including TwonkyServer 6.0. All connected up lovely to my LG SMart TV.

Trouble is I can play .mkv Blu Ray rips but hte audio is unsupported.

Any thoughts?

Do you know what file containers and codecs in the containers are supported by the tv?
sometimes the manual has a page on what is or is not supported
sometimes its on the tv website or forums

it sounds like it supports mkv, since it is playing it,
its possible that it doesnt support the audio codec, it could be something else
need the specs to determine what is and is not supported

Its the DTS Audio in the .mkv that isn't supported by the TV.

Is there any way round that without buying a Home Cinema Kit that supports DTS?

there are two options

1. you could transcode it, but nas's arent up to the challenge, cpu limited

2. you could demux the mkv, or extract the dts track, and rencode it to ac3, then mux it back it

note:
depending on what track number it is, it is "possible" it wont work unless the ac3 is the first track
I know this is true of mp4 for most clients, has to be avc,aac,ac3 not avc,ac3,aac track order
whether or not this is true for mkv and you client not sure
one reall quick way would be to mux in an ac3 track from anything
just to see if it will play it, then youll know

mkvmerge is the tool youll need for the muxing
for the audio there a bunch of choices
