Request: Password for MediaBrowser access via Internet

Post by tst » Sun Jul 01, 2007 3:30 pm

Hello,

I really like the new HTML web access feature for the media browser. Now it's very easy to set up an MediaSever that is accessible via the internet. :D All you need is the Twonky Server and a Router that supports Dynamic DNS and "virtual servers"/port forwarding.

The problem is, that it's a little bit too easy: ;-> the password protection works only for the configpage - everyone can access the whole Media referenced by the MediaBrowser if he enters the correct URL.

I guess it would be a good idea to add a second PW option for "user" access to the MediaBrowser. End users and the record companies would not be very happy, if everybody has access to the private data like fotos and mp3 libraries via internet.

BTW: is there a way to restrict the access to the URLs by editing some configfiles?

Best regards,

Thomas Stroeter

(my config: Buffalo Linkstation + Twonky Server, Netgear Router with DynDNS and Virtual Server/Port redirection option)

it is possible. a small quote from the RevisionHistory file
on remote access setup:
set dyndns in .ini file to http://myhome.dyndns.org:9100
set httpremoteport in .ini file to 9100
forward 9100 on the firewall to the server
use http://myhome.dynfns.org:9100/webbrowse to access content
you should also set username and pwd on the config pages for secure access
you may use stunnel as well to protect the access even more...
but, after i set the user/pwd for httpremoteport i was not longer able to open mp3-files over the internet with my n800. the n800 mediaplayer don't work with user/pwd.

Hi Hajuro,

thank you for your fast answer - I've used Twonky 4.3 - lets see how it works with the latest release.

Regards,

Thomas
