So what format should I convert my FLAC files to?

I have a xbox 360 connected to my living room AV. I want to play all my music on that.

I have twonky running on my NAS.

I have all my files wonderfully ripped to flac with all tags perfect.

My wife wants to buy music and access our ripped files using itunes.

My take - we would buy drm free AAC from itunes. I would batch convert using dbpoweramp all flac to AAC (LC). Those AAC would be visible in itunes and on the 360... but it is not working out to be that way. Help? Opinions? Thanks in advance.

Have you installed AAC support on Xbox 360? It is a free download from the Marketplace.

Yes, AAC support is installed on the xbox360. Songs are all seen, but red circles with slashes through them are shown next to all songs, and they do not play.

Zune works streaming AAC to the 360, but for some reason, Twonky on an Infrant does not.

I'm getting desperate to get this to work, so now I'm using dbconverter to convert flac to wma lossless to see if that will work.

Edit: I tried WMA lossless and it plays choppy on a fully wired network.

As long as you are using Twonky on a ReadyNAS you are going to be limited to mp3, lossy wma, and possibly wav.

I'm not sure what transcoding is available with the Windows Twonky server, but wma lossless is supported to the Xbox 360 with media sharing on Windows Media Player 11. Note that the PC is decoding the WMAL to PCM before being sent to the Xbox 360. That step is not done by Twonky on the ReadyNAS which is why you get the choppy playback.

Just another reason that I recently decided to go the Windows Home Server route..
