Streaming from Linux to 360?

Hi,

I am planning to move from Windows to Linux. However I do use Media Center & Transcode 360 to stream video to the Xbox 360.

Having done some searching I came across TwonkyVision which looks quite promising.

Can anyone tell me how well streaming music and video to the 360 from linux works and what files types are supported (or not supported if thats easier?)

TwonkyMedia is an excellent upnp server software. It is very stable and rarely crashes. However, one weakness with the software is transcoding. There is a lack of support for transcoding various formats. Especially for video, there are so many codecs. Wihin XviD alone, there are multiple codecs. Thus, media players are unable to get every piece of media to play correctly. In the case of the Xbox 360, DivX and XviD are not supported. Thus, TwonkyMedia will not be the best choice for streaming to the Xbox 360 due to a lack of transcoding support. However, TwonkyMedia does have transcode support for FLAC to WAV for Windows and Linux PC's. Beyond that, transcoding support is nonexistent.

If you watch WMV moves, then streaming to the 360 is excellent. However, there because of lack of transcoding, there is no DivX, XviD, or Quicktime support.

Can it stream mp4 (h.264) to the 360?

Not sure on the 360, but Twonky on Linux H.264 video to a PS3 works great.

MP4 streams great - no transcoding required (used handbrake to encode)
