Shoutcast streams, but never actually plays

I don't know if I am missing some config setting or what. I searched the forum for Shoutcast and didn't find my specific problem which is this:

I see whatever Shoutcast genres that I add and the stations within each genre as well. When I click on a particular station using Firefox, the download box opens and it appears to be saving the stream somewhere, but it never opens winamp (my default player) to start playing the stream. I tried changing the default player to the Quicktime plug-in and Windows Media Player and nothing works. Various download boxes open up showing that data is being received, but of course it never finishes since it is a continuous stream. And no player will open them.

My setup is Twonky 4.4.2 running on an uNSLUng 6.8b Linksys NSLU2. Same behavior occurs if I try to stream shoutcast radio stations through my AE wifi radio (reciva based). I see the genre on the radio, opening the genre gives me a list of stations, but when I select a station all I get is continuous connecting behavior. The router status lights indicate that material is being downloaded and passed to the radio, but the radios player never opens. I tend to think this is not a problem with my radio since it also happens with winamp, wmp, and qt on my pc.

My mp3 collection works just fine to both the PC using firefox and the reciva based radio. Anybody got any suggestions?

Streaming buffer size is 16382 which was the default.

Here is a typical url from my 'world' list:

http://192.168.1.9:9000/httpproxy//O32$ ... Trance.mp3

Wouldn't it want to be an .m3u file?

Should I open some port for the NSLU2 on the router (can't imagine why)?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Brian

**EDIT

Just an addendum, I have noticed that when I am attempting to stream music from any station in my 'Internet Radio' list, the stream is in fact downloading because it is saving it in my C:\Documents and Settings\Mylogin\Local Settings\temp folder. When I cancel the download, the file disappears. So is it that Twonky is not feeding it to winamp?

When I stream the same station directly to Winamp, no such file appears, just a 1kb .tmp file that disappears when I stop the stream.

I think that something is broken with the code here, no?

Could it be a problem with translation from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8 in the urls since I am using an XP box to load the urls into the .m3u lists?

Just guessing wildly here.

Christian?

Hello?

Let me ask a simpler question. Is anyone reading this currently able to stream using the Shoutcast function with the NSLU2 as a platform? I cannot and am using 4.4.2.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi all -

I guess this will be my last post in the thread. Couldn't resist putting this here for anyone to read (if anyone reads this forum).

Below is pasted the sum total of my communications with Twonky Support. They do have the tech support mantra down very well, I think!

Lets see........ it's not our product that's broken, it's FireFox, Internet Explorer, Windows Meda Player, Quicktime, Winamp and Helix that are broken.

Goodbye Twonky, hello MediaTomb!

Hi Brian ,

setting up the correct IExplorer/Firefox plugin for a certain mime-type is out
of scope of twonkymedia. This is a browser related problem.

Thanks
