Is it possible to stream avi's and flac file to my xbox 360?

I'm running ubuntu 7.10.

I tried twonky a couple of months ago and was only able after a little persuasion to get mp3's to stream.

I think you can use VLC to stream and transcode from Linux.

Yes, it is possible with other UPNP servers which have transcoding support, something that Twonky is still a bit weak on. Hopefully, that will change soon. I have tried transcoding, these other servers have got audio transcoding to work very well, but they still need to work on improving video transcoding.

The 360 is getting an update tomorrow to support divx natively. I'm still unclear this will work with Twonky.

If the XBOX displays the DivX files, then it should work.

Just read confirmation that Twonky works no problems with the 360 update and you can play DivX's directly from your server. I haven't confirmed any of this myself yet, but I will do this evening.

Cybrey, thats what i wanted to ask here that day. Since my Xbox360 got overheated yesterday and the new 360 elite will arrive here tomorror, i havent been able to test how the 360 behaves with DIVX files and Twonkymedia since the fall dashboard update of the xbox.

If it works like you're saying, that would be great!!

I can confirm that streaming does work. you need to change the video source on the Media, Video Tab. press X and select Twonky server, then you can play your AVIs. the first time I selected an AVI the xbox console told me it has to download a media update first in order to play the video.

So far so good.

Yup all works fine, some of my divx's don't play but I think thats a known bug.

One thing that had me confused was I had to select a different device ( it defaults to some downloaded content). But I switched over to the Twonky server everything just worked.

I can confirm that xvids play well. I have a few different bitrates on my colection and they all seem to be playing just fine.

On another forum (on http://www.evo-x.de) someone wrote that you actually must be online to xbox-live to play videos with the new codecs (divx/xvid). Is that true?

It wouldnt be much of a problem, nevertheless i would find that a bit strange...

I have twonky set up on my mac to stream to my xbox360, however it doesn't seem to see the folders I have set up. I am trying to serve off of an external HDD. To the best of my knowledge, I have set up the server to access those folders, but when I connect to the server via the 360, I see nothing at all.

what am I doing wrong?

I tried streaming. DivX is working. I hope Twonky improves its FLAC transcoding support, though.
