4.4.3.1 doesn't work for me! With a fresh install it seems to start building the database and then stops taking CPU and not responding via HTTP.

Also how do I enable logging? I've tried

Code: Select all

-log -logfile /var/log/twonkymedia.log
but the file is zero-size. Where is this documented?

Also what sort of testing do you do once you've built a new version? I am a professional developer myself and don't like testing stuff - preferring to assume that anything I write will work first time - it's not true though - it rarely does. You guys seem to have the same assumption and I'm getting pretty fed-up with paying for something that doesn't work. I am tempted to go back to mediatomb as I'm so sick of it! :x

Hi All,

here are my collected findings on 4.4.3.1:

My environment:
TV 4.4.3.1running on SuSE Linux 10.1
Clients:
PS3, FW 2.10
RokuSoundbridge 1001, FW 3.x
Kodak EX811, FW 200710x

PS3:
----
- AVI files stream fine, no problems
- All AVI files have no codec information given (minor issue)
- Most of my music is not playing (mp3, wma and wav) -> corrupt data
- All cover art in mp3 is not detected
- No cover art in video files
- Pictures show fine

Roku:
------
Everything seems to be fine, no issues with mp3/wma/wav playback
(Internet radio not tested)

Kodak EX811:
---------------
- Pictures load fine
BUT: Since the Kodak is not capable to show files AND folders in in one view there is a strong disadvantage the way TV handles tags:

Let's say 50 pictures have the tag "Home", and 20 out of them have the additional tag "Kitchen".
TV will allow to navigate through these tags by the following structure:

Code: Select all

Tags
 |
 |- Home
 | |
 | |- Kitchen -- Pic31
 | | |- Pic32
 | | |...
 | | |- Pic50
 | |- Pic01
 | |- Pic02
 | |...
 | |- Pic30
Because of this structure the Kodak cannot show/access Pic01 to Pic30.
I know this is an issue with the Kodak but since it is listed as supported device I think it should be taken in consideration.

My suggestion is to add the - ALL - tag to every folder (like its already done with Music and Videos), so one can chose - ALL - in the mentioned Home folder and will see just plain all pictures (in the above case Pic01 to Pic50)

General issues (client independent):
- The ability to list pictures by their description/title is completely gone (worked fine in 4.4.2), all I see is - ALL -

That's all (so far)
Merry X-Mas

The OS X version of 4.4.3.1 is broken it will not create a .db folder or a .ini file in the mediaserver app therefore the server constantly resets its self.

Please fix it

Happy Holidays

You need to also specify the log level.

For everything:

Code: Select all

./twonkymediaserver -v 511
You can also set it in the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini

See my new Sticky on enabling logging. Feedback on it most welcome..

Twonky 4.4.3.1 on Buffalo Terrastation Live
Playstation 3 with v 2.1
Migrated from Twonky 4.4.2 this week

Changes:
1. MP3 ID3 Tags started showing up as unknown, converted all tags to v 2.3 and now display properly Artist and Album info on PS3.
2. Album Art no longer shows up, confimed Art is in the MP3(not in ITunes DB)
3. Takes longer to scan directories
4. Appears to take more memory(Not confirmed)

Not sure how to resolve the Album Art issue, did some research but no conclusions.

Thanks mgillespie; it's good to be able to see what the server is up to.

Hello,

I discovered the following issues with 4.4.3.1:
Videos and Pictures directories cannot be removed. If they are deselected they are still shown on my client.
My shoutcast Playlists (M3U-files) are not added to the list until I manually rescan my media directories.
Is there a commandline switch to scan these directories at startup?

My configuration :
TwonkyMedia 4.4.3.1 running as a service
Windows XP SP2
Netgear MP101

regards,

Kosh66

4.4.3.1 and the previous RC seem to have caused a memory leak on my PC. I am running Windows XP. Since installing the last RC, the system is extremely slow. When I go into Task Manager, TwonkyMediaServer.exe is showing as consuming huge amounts of memory (ex. 302,000 kb). Thise is slowing down the system as it is constantly swapping memory to the hard drive. I can run a RAM cleanup and TwonkyMediaServer will drop down to less than 30,000 kb, but it immediately starts consuming memory again. I did an uninstall and the problem went away. I will reinstall and turn on the logging to see if that provides more info.

to add to the list...

I run Twonky on Synology CS407e. I use simple music navigation with the Artist set to Album Artist (instead of just Artist).

In 4.4.3.1 Album Artist is gone, Folder Artist is new.

My problem is that after I save the changed navigation and restart the server the navigation settings are reset and it shows Artist again instead of Folder Artist.

Don't know whether Foler Artist = Album Artist. If not, PLEASE put back the Album Artist.

And obviously, the possibility to change the navigation structure and remember my settings.

cheers

From the HTML code:
[code]<option value="%ALBUM">Folder</option><option value="%ALBUMARTIST">Folder Artist</option>[/code]

Unfortunately I find that I cannot alter the Music Tree. After updating it changed itself to some default (Video and Picture trees are unaffected), and any attempt to alter it is rejected.
@Twonky: I can suggest regression-testing your software prior to releases ;)

So far not managed to play back any XVids on my PS3, AVI or MPEG4 :(

If I uninstall Twonky, the memory leak goes away. However, if I install 4.4.2, it comes back. Any ideas what may be wrong?

I tried changing the navigation to simple tree as well as limiting the max cache size in the .ini file. Neither made a difference. Twonky uses all the available memory and forces the system into continuous page file swap. Any other suggestions?

In addition to "Album" no longer being available to choose for custom menus, every one of my MP3s (they are all 160 or 192 CBR) now display as 3 minutes 20 seconds in duration on my DSM-320RD. These two things used to work properly but got broke in the latest release.

Christian, please fix this before you stop development for the NSLU2. It would be a shame to have this broken on the last release for this NAS.

Gaijin wrote:Hey Christian,

Thanks for the update I really appreciate it as half of my media collection is Xvid/DivX and therefore was out of bounds for a long time...

The Problem is that the server keeps restarting the scan every 60 seconds or so logging it out from the PS3 even though it is set to scan only once a day, this database rebuilding keeps the drives running constantly.

I'm not sure but when it does scan it doesn't seem to find media on the 2 usb external drives attatched to my MSS II, maybe this is the problem?

Also the memory usage only seems to get to a certain amount before sticking and then reseting although the amount has varied from attempt to attempt after resetting to defaults it has never reached the 6000kb approx that it was at with 4.4.2.

Is there any chance of fixing this as 60 sec is not even long enough to download the file for local viewing

I Had to revert back to 4.4.2 before I killed my drives

Log files will be supplied upon request

:?:
As per the above I tinkered a bit and discovered that the file causing the re-scans was a jpeg in a subfolder of my Music directory, upon removing it Twonky completed a full scan and seems to serve Divx perfectly, strangely this file caused no issues with 4.4.2?
Anyway I am submitting it and the subfolder it came in now for examination.

It appeared to be the file back.jpg in the folder covers of Kasabian - Empire

Twonky 4.4.3.1 Update

Post by In_to_the_Mystic_2003 » Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:20 pm

3. Takes longer to scan directories
4. Appears to take more memory(Not confirmed)
5. Album Art shows up properly from the Browser so can only conclude either in the PS3 settings file or PS3 FW 2.1 broke it. It is very inconsistent, sometimes it shows up sometimes it does not.
6. ITunes Playlists are solid now, was broken in 4.4.2 and appears fixed in 4.4.3.1
7. Album Art in Video Tree same behavoir, sometimes works, sometimes not. Each MPEG4 file is in a folder with Video Art in Folder.jpg file in the same directory.
8. Appear to get more DLNA protocol errors than in 4.4.2

Not sure how to resolve the Album Art issue, did some research but no conclusions.

Update to my previous post as done some more expermentation.

Are MPEG4 contaners valid for DivX? I thought only AVI and DivX containers were valid...

A link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_2

The PS3 claims that it is AVC and not ASP - this I would suspect is Sony not reading the documentation properly. Twonky could probably remux the whole thing in real-time, but I'd rather not see that happen (100MHz, 8meg machine here).

Cache folder limit - not working on unNSLUng

Post by Valley » Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:01 am

[quote="doubrown"] limiting the max cache size in the .ini file. Neither made a difference. [/quote]

Same or similar problem on NSLU2.
Tried to play flac thru cgi-bin plugin on NSLU (Unslung 6.8). The Cache folder did not deleted any old files even the "Cache Folder Limit" size was correctly set to values between 1024 and 1024000 KBytes as given in the webpage setting dialogue. Tested under versions 4.4, 4.4.3RC4 and 4.4.3.1 - none worked.
Changelog for v4.4.3.1 mentioned it should work now - but NOT on NSLU2!
