4.4.3.1 problems ?

Post by twonky-christian » Thu Jan 03, 2008 2:15 pm

Hi,

we tried to verify the problems with 4.4.3.1 regarding
- broken album art on PS3
- no music streaming on PS3
- no video thumbnails on PS3

And we were unable to reproduce these. :?

We found a bug in the EXIF parser (picture scanner) which will be fixed in the next version. :!:

If you have one of the problems above and can reproduce it - it would be great if you could send specific system information and/or test content which fails to support@twonkymedia.com

Thanks
Christian

Hello Christian,

how about the other problems, could you reproduce them?
As already mentioned in another thread:

I discovered the following issues with 4.4.3.1:
Videos and Pictures directories cannot be removed. If they are deselected they are still shown on my client.
My shoutcast Playlists (M3U-files) are not added to the list until I manually rescan my media directories.
Is there a commandline switch to scan these directories at startup?

My configuration :
TwonkyMedia 4.4.3.1 running as a service
Windows XP SP2
Netgear MP101

Kosh66

Hello,

Yes I've got issues with release 4.4.3.1.

Indeed

- broken album art on PS3 -> that's true, it doesn't work at all.
- no music streaming on PS3 -> wrong it works great.
- no video thumbnails on PS3 -> that's true, it doesn't work at all.

My configuration :
TwonkyMedia 4.4.3.1
NAS Synology DS-107+
Sony Playstation 3

Hi,

my config:
Client: PS3 F/W 2.10
Server: SuSE 10.1, TV 4.4.3.1

- No cover art anywhere (video and audio)
- mp3 files (as well as other audio formats) partly do not play
- No descriptions read out of pictures (guess that's the mentioned EXIF parser bug)

So, what can I do to provide more usable input for you guys (e.g. files, logs etc.)?

Regards
ThyMaster

We found the problem - it looks like all Linux builds have an old version of the cgi-jpegscale plugin. This is responsible for album art and video thumbnails. Please have a look at the build date of this plugin.

We still can not reproduce the interrupted MP3 playback issue - this is totally different. Does this appear only with specific files ?

Great you've got that solved
If only I could get so far....

For some reason my PS3 is constantly getting disconnected from the twonky server despite network reception being >90% signal strength. My Roku and others are all ok with less :(

Server: Sabayon Linux BE 1.0, TM 4.4.3.1
Client: PS3 FW 2.1

I've turned on logging - but nothing comes up to indicate why it's being disconnected.

Any ideas?

I have a problem with the interrupted playback. I have seen it on many files, both MP3 and WMA. The files themselves are fine, and worked with previous versions.

Playback simply stops, for no apparent reason.

Info:

Linux build (Gentoo)
Wired network
PS3 client (Firmware 2.10)

It also seems (but I cannot be sure), that it's only PS3 related, and the music I have played on my Noxons have not had any issues (and I tried the same files).

Will try and reproduce again tonight, with full logging on, and see if I can get anything interesting...

I'm not sure about what you mean by "build date" of this plugin.

Plus I do not have problems as I said with mp3 playback.

Is it possible to have the new cgi-jpegscale plugin file ?

I think a simple copy/paste in the cgi-bin folder will make thumbnails appears ... no ? :-)

Thanks.

Hi Christian,

I have another problem with the last version.

In the music navigation tree, I have a default node "Folder" appearing each time I restart the server. The problem is not that much the Folder node itself, but more the fact that it indeed displays all the available album names and that if I remove it it reappears the next time i restart the server. But If I add a second "Folder" node, the second one has the correct behavior (but I appears two times in the list).

I hope I've been clear enough...

My configuration :
TwonkyMedia 4.4.3.1
NAS Synology DS-101j
Roku Soundbrige M1000
Sony Playstation 3 (FW 2.10)

Olivier.

Had dropouts this evening, with debugging on. Managed to trap the error.

Full logfile sent to Twonky support.

However, at the time the error occured, I got the following in my log:

My ps3 is constantly disconnected from twonky, I had absolutely no problems with 4.4.2 (except for playing divx of course). My xbox 360 and mediaplayer 11 run just fine.

Secondly the 4.4.3.x installer seems to be broken, it appears to be using some redhat specific packages while I am using ubuntu 7.10 (also no problem with 4.4.2)

I also have no thumbnails/album art for music & videos

I get intermittent problems with MP3 playback. Sometimes it says it's an unsupported media type, other times the same track will play :? I've noticed that if it happens with the first track in an album I can go on to a subsequent track which may play. If it does play, I can then go back to the first track using the 'previous track' button and it will play.

My setup:
PS3 v2.10
Buffalo Linstation Live + Twonky 4.4.3.1
Netgear DG834GT

I have logging enabled, would the log files be of any use?

I also have a Philips SLA5520, which streams music just fine.

Regards

Mike

Yep, crashes during scanning are due to the EXIF parser bug. In the meantime, switch on logging, and see what file is causing the crash. Move it out temporarilly.

Glad to see you are making progress on the fixes.

Please also fix the "folder" instead of "album" in the music tree.

Thanks!

Hi Christian.

thanx, that fixed one of my problems. But I'm quite sure in former versions you didn't have to set this option to 'custom'.

Issue with music and cover art problems on PS3 SOLVED!

Hi Folks,

after Christian mentioned a wrong cgi script version earlier in this thread I investigated a bit more:
And yes, the one shipped with TV 4.4.3.1 (Linux) its the same version as in TV 4.4.2!
Since there was a RC of TV 4.4.3 where cover art and music was all fine on a PS3 I restored this version (cgi-bin directory) from my backup tapes.
And:
It works fine!

BTW, the reason why mp3 files didn't play on my PS3, was, that NEARLY ALL of my mp3 files have cover art integrated in the ID3v2 tags. So whenever the PS3 tried to play an mp3 file it also tried to read out/load the integrated cover art JPEG. Which, of course, did fail (see the cover art issue) and hence no playback of this file was possible.

- ThyMaster

P.S.: The file size of the working version of "cgi-jpegscale" is 107396 bytes

- broken album art on PS3 - some works, some doesn't
- no music streaming on PS3 - Streaming stops and PS3 needs to be restarted
- no video thumbnails on PS3 - none

TwonkyMedia 4.4.3.1 running as a service
Windows XP SP2
PS3 FW2.1

I'm running the demo and would love to get this working . . . can't find a better app yet (if only I could depend on this I would buy it)

Albums 'called' Folders

Post by Briain » Fri Jan 04, 2008 5:46 pm

Hi

I incorrectly posted this as a reply to the announcement, but regarding evilo’s point above, I too have noticed the folder issue; it would seem to be a naming issue but not to affect anything else. My initial response was as below:
---
I had 4.4.2 and have just updated to 4.4.3.1 on my Ready NAS and noticed that the music tree has two entries under ‘folder’. The top one actually refers to album and the lower one to folder. The music tree retained my original settings but, for example, where they were set to artist \ album, it now shows artist \ folder (all still works fine though, it's just shown incorrectly in the tree settings).

Kindest regards,
Briain Wilson

incompatible data message with TS-Files

Post by tmm » Sat Jan 05, 2008 12:23 am

Hi,

i have fixed the cover art problem like described.

I am using the Linux-Version 4.4.3.1 together with a PS3 and Xbox360.
Both machines with the actual updates.

After the release of 4.4.3.1 divx-movies streams like a charme.
But now, the PS3 doesn't play my recorded TS-Files anymore.
Just displaying an incompatible data message.
Version 4.4.3 played this TS-Files 100%.

Hope this bug will be addresed in the near future.

Hi!

Same problem here. I use 4.4.3.1 under Linux and my client is a PS3. With 4.4.2 most of my TS-Files recorded with a DBox2 ran without problems (although some of them couldn't be started or stuttered). Now all files are shown as "Inkompatible Daten".

It would be great if this could be fixed.

Hello all, I have done some extensive testing now (3 solid days) on trying to reproduce the error of the songs crashing out. I was mainly running my WMA songs and now I have tested the same song with WMA, ACC and MP3 formats. I can also confirm that it does not matter if the song format has embedded artwork you still get the same result. eg if the album art is displayed or not this has no effect on the song crashing out.

Can people just test my findings and report back, to help Twonky solve this issue.

My results are as below:

WMA songs: All WMA songs with or without embedded album art will fail about 20 seconds into playing on the PS3. On rare occasions it will play in it's entirety, however if you try again it will fail 98% of the time. A failure will mosty take you back to the PS3 main screen or rarely take you to the next song. Embeded album art is now displayed on the PS3.

ACC songs: I have so far not been able to fail any of these apart from one occation, where I had to switch the PS3 off and on to recover. I have been unable to reproduce that, but can almost guarantee these files will work with the PS3 without crashing out. Again embedded art does not make a difference. However, some of my ACC files still show only half the Album art, while others work fine. On further investigation within iTunes, these files had more than one image embedded. Having removed the unwanted image to leave just one this will solve the problem. However, this change will only be displayed within your PS3 after you perform a complete rebuild of the database within Twonky. After that, you will see the complete Album Art displayed on your PS3.

MP3 songs: I have not been able to fail any of these files with or without embeded album art. Album art works also. So works fine.

Other file types I do not have, so cannot test.

All formats play over Vista and XP Pro although not tested fully over the webinterface. Album art gets displayed in the webinterface and through WMP11. ACC files play thorough Quicktime with no Album Art.

Video: I don't have many to test yet but can confirm more functionality with the latest update.

My testing was completed on the following:

PS3 with 2.10 update
Thecus N4100Plus NAS Box F/W 2.0.04.3
TWONKYMEDIA 4.4.4 compiled from (Linux ARM little endian glibc 2.2.5 )

I think those People reporting no problem playing files must be using either ACC or MP3 or another supported file type. Those having crashes will probably find they are playing WMA files. Not sure if that is a TWONKY issue or PS3 issue.

Half displayed Album art is due to your song containing more than one embedded image. TWONKYMEDIA may be getting confused, whereas iTunes can handle this. Removing the unwanted image will fix this but not untill you complete a database rebuild. Bad luck to all those who have spent ages embeding more than one image on there tracks unless TWONKY can script that bug out.

I hope someone can confirm my findings and so help TWONKY find a solution, or help focus thier debugging efforts.

Regards

Netgear MP101 RTP broken again?

Post by typer » Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:27 pm

Hello,

I installed 4.4.3.1 on an x86 mini PC (1 GHz processor) running Debian Etch. Playback of MP3 files with Netgear MP 101 clients stutters and gets slower after approx. 90 seconds if I choose "Netgear MP101 RTP" from the clients list. "Netgear MP101" seems to be ok.

I know that this was an issue a couple of months ago with the NSLU2 version of Twonky.

Kind regards,
Andreas

Additional info: "Netgear MP101" is also kind of fragile (playback suddenly stopped after 15 minutes or so). No interruptions for 2 hours now with "Generic Music Only Receiver". N.B.: My network is wired.

4.4.3.1 linux version

Post by wa2tqi » Mon Jan 14, 2008 12:39 am

I am having a problem with remote access to the server. I run DDNS. I have configured the server network section to prepend my DDNS URL, saved and restarted the server. I find the server just fine and it opens the first page fine. When I choose a category i.e. music it changes the URL to my 192.168 inside address and the get fails. If I edit the URL for the correct DDNS URL it proceeds Ok to listing the music files. Once I select a file to stream it is back to the inside address again.

This is running on a NAS SLUG under UNSLUNG

MediaServer.app crashes

Post by amgems » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:05 am

I will assume for now that the fact that my prior posting of this being deleted and my account being made inactive is not part of a nefarious attempt to pretend there are no problems with this.

Here is the text of the original message, except I will delete all the extraneous details. Perhaps that is why the message was deleted and my account made inactive?

I just noticed there was an upgrade. I upgraded. 4.4.2 to 4.4.3.1
You lost my license info and all my settings. Thanks for that.

I added them back in, and in the process, MediaServer.app crashed thrice on me. I sent the reports to Apple. I am sure they will just delete them.

The PS3 system has disconnected from the media server

Post by agccheung » Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:34 am

I am experienceing the same problems as described below.

Client: PS3 fw 2.1
Server: v4.4.3.1 on Thecus N1200

Experiencing disconnection from media server every 20 seconds, after which the PS3 auto-discovers the dlna server again. Within those 20 seconds or so, i can stream divx/xvid (for about 20secs fine).

Has the root cause of this been found?

Cheers

If only I could get so far....

For some reason my PS3 is constantly getting disconnected from the twonky server despite network reception being >90% signal strength. My Roku and others are all ok with less :(

Server: Sabayon Linux BE 1.0, TM 4.4.3.1
Client: PS3 FW 2.1

I've turned on logging - but nothing comes up to indicate why it's being disconnected.

Any ideas?
DLNA client: PS3 fw:2.10
Server: Thecus n1200
TwonkyMedia version: 4.4.3.1
Router: Netgear DG834PN
