Hello,
I'm using Twonky 4.4.3.1 on my NAS box. My PS3 is connecting wirelessly...
I can see and listen to the photos and music on my NAS shares through the PS3...
But when I go to watch my video files, I can "see" the filenames in the PS3 "Video" section, but when I try to play them I get a "The data is corrupted" error. Then the filename goes away and is replaced by "Corrupted Data" where the filename used to be.
The videos were downloaded into .AVI files from my miniDV recorder.
I've tried an MP4 video clip too, and it doesn't even show up in the "Videos" section on the PS3.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
Dan
PS3 & Twonky 4.4.3.1
The PS3 should be able to eat the files, if they are of a recent DivX or XViD format.
Problem with AVI is that the name merely describes the packaging: Audio Video Interleaved. Doesn't say anything about the content
Short of opening the files in a hex-editor to determine the actual codecs used, I would suggest reading the manual for the recorder (It ought to state codec I should think), or testing the files by putting them on a USB drive and attaching that directly to the PS3.
You may also be able to get a videoplayer to tell you the codec. MPlayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) will usually spit out a lot of text when run on a command prompt (CLI) including codecs.
MPEG4 should play, but it may be something odd like file-extension not being recognized by Twonky or by the PS3. Try the trick with the USB drive to at least test the file against PS3 without the Twonky factor.

Thanks a ton for the feedback guys.
I'm not sure what the codec is..I'll work on figuring it out. I can convert it to an mp4 file using a PS3 program that converts to mpg-4, but those aren't showing up through Twonky, the MP4 extensions.
I'll do some testing and tinkering around...I can't even find like a test video file that someone KNOWS works on a PS3 to test... anyone have some small video clip?

MGillespie of these boards once provided me with an MPEG4 test-file known to work on the PS3. You can try asking him if it is something he can make publicly available (I might be able to provide hosting if it is needed).eggerda wrote:...I can't even find like a test video file that someone KNOWS works on a PS3 to test... anyone have some small video clip?
Alternatively, you can give me a video-clip you have distribution-rights for, and I can MPEG4'ify it and place it for public download (No, nothing showing nudity or various uncivilized behaviour )

Sure...how do I send you the file? It's a small sports clip I snagged of youtube.
Does Twonky serve up .mp4 files? I notice no .mp4 files show up in the list on the PS3... .avi's do (though they don't play...)
Dan
P.S. I just upgraded to the beta version of Twonky as PS3 problems are supposed to be fixed..same problems though

OK, Test files for all... These all work on Twonkyvision 4.4.1 and PS3 with firmware 2.10.
WMV:
http://rapidshare.com/files/84602962/Ro ... 0.wmv.html (VBR audio, not currently playing with sound on PS3 FW2.10)
http://rapidshare.com/files/84977108/Bear.wmv.html (CBR Audio, Fully PS3 compatible)
MP4(AVC):
http://rapidshare.com/files/84600164/Ro ... 0.mp4.html
DivX:
http://rapidshare.com/files/84602961/Ro ... 0.avi.html
All the same movie, hopefully not breaking any licencing, igore the fact that the non WMV files, are actually advertising WMV, as it's just the same source file I used... Make sure you use them, any files that don't get downloaded for 90 days, get deleted by Rapidshare...
The DivX file was encoded with the official DivX encoder 6.8, the AVC file, using PS3Video9 and the "AVC 1080p 4096kbps Stereo/160kbps" profile. The first WMV is direct from the Microsoft HD Showcase gallery, and has VBR audio, which currently is non-working on PS3, the second WMV file, was from the DivX samples, which I reencoded using WindowsMedia Encoder 9, and the highest quality video settings, and highest quality CBR Audio settings.

Schwing...they all worked except for 1 of them that didn't have audio...
Anyway, it looks like the .avi's produced by my MiniDV recorder won't be played on PS3.
What's the best way to convert these into something the PS3 can play?
I tried PS3 Video 9, and it converted one of these video files into a .mp4 file...but something is wrong with the file and it won't even be listed on the directory...my computer (quicktime) won't even play it.
Is there an easy way to get thes miniDV recorder .avi files into something the PS3 will play?
Suggestions?
Thanks guys.
Dan

Well spotted, the WMV indeed does not have any audio, which is strange, as it's the original file straight from Microsoft.
I have also reencoded a video using Windows Media Encoder, and that is also silent, both streaming and playing locally from the PS3, so it's obviously a client problem, not a TwonkyMedia issue.
UPDATE: It seems PS3 cannot handle WMV with VBR Audio. If I encode using CBR, the file has corretly playing sound on the PS3.
This WMV file should stream correctly.

As for encoding your videos to stream to PS3, have you tried WindowsMedia9 encoder? (using CBR Audio)
