QNAP 201, twonky 4.4.4 RC1, PS3 and can't play any lossless

Hi there,

I have a QNAP 201 NAS which has a beta copy of Twonky 4.4.4 running on it. I am using it on a wired connection to my ps3. I really want to be able to play any lossless files as the ps3 is linked to my stereo in the lounge. After testing I can't play

WMA lossless files
Wav files
Flac files
ALAC - apple lossless

but I can play

mp3
wma
AAC

Will future releases of twonky allow any lossless files to be played? I don't mind converting my files or indeed ripping all my cd's again. I have got that desperate.

Thanks

As far as I know the PS3 will not play WMA lossless or FLAC files. I also do not think it will play ALAC either.

It should play WAV and Twonky also supports this, but it must be LPCM compatible.

So most of these questions should be aimed at Sony!

Hi caoimhghin,

Whats the best way to rip a wav filed that is lpcm compatible? I think I used Itunes or windows media player.

Hi rosscouk,

I've never tried streaming wav files from TM, but I encoded some files using SoundForge, Media Monkey, Nero and Super and all came back as 'unsupported data' on the PS3. I then copied the same files to a USB stick and they played fine! So on the face of it, it does look like a TM problem even though both the PS3 and TM have been certified to play LPCM by DLNA org. I suppose it could be a simple MIME type naming problem as with the recent DivX support on the PS3, but only Sony or Twonky would know that!

As far as I know all current wav encoders wil produce a LPCM compatible PCM file so I guess my previous post was a bit ambiguous!

I can't believe it is this difficult to get the ps3 to play lossless files from my nas using twonky.

I haven't used the nas as much as I wanted because of this.

Anyone from Twonky have a comment?
