Unsupported Format - it's DIVX!

Post by mdeeter » Fri Feb 01, 2008 3:32 am

I am unable to get my DLink DSM-510 to play DIVX avi files. I always get an error: "Unsupported Format" If I convert the file to XVID, then it plays fine.

I've installed TwonkyMedia 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 and none of them play DVIX avi files.

Any suggestions?

I think your problem is the Dlink and not Twonky, my setup (twonky on a nas and a philips streamium sl300i) plays .divx without problems.

actually my ps3 doesn't seem to play DIVX files as well. I'm on PS3 2.01 and Twonky 4.4.3.1

PS3 FW 2.01 doesn't have divx capabilities, upgrade to the latest firmware for divx.

my Ps3 is already updated with the latest firmware (2.01) but it still can't display AVI/DIVX media. I have to rename these files extension to "MPG" but the playback is very jerky, plus the PS3 will show an invalid movie/video length.

any help?

Possible that some of these are DivX3 or DivX4 files?

PS3, DivX and Twonky

I have the latest and get unsupported format on my divx. Note, extension is not .avi it is .divx. These were encoded with the latest divx codec and play fine on xbox 360.

Note: They (the .divx) also show up properly using mediatomb, but I believe I had to do some sort of magic with mediatomb to tell it that .divx extensions should be handled like video/x-divx.

The funny thing is that I could swear these were working two or three days ago. I can't be 100% certain on that since I am testing with ushare, mediatomb and twonky. So far I like twonky the best (still using the 30 day trial, but if I get this sorted out I will purchase), but if I can't get my divx's to play it's sort of pointless.

Question: Is it possible that some demo/game I downloaded from ps3 store could downgrade my ps3 version? When I try to do an upgrade it tells me I'm running the latest version, but as I said I thought this was working with Twonky before. I tried restarting the server, rescaning directories and restarting the ps3.

I need to do some more playing tonight to make sure that MediaTomb still works (ruling out some sort of ps3 problem) and maybe play around with twonky's logging a bit to see what might be going on.

I deleted my client list (under security) and then it worked. My XBox 360/PS3 and other machines are all DHCP, so I guess it's possible that over the course of a couple of days that the IP addresses got mixed up and Twonky was no longer seeing the real PS3 as a PS3. I can't really think of another explanation for the problems I was seeing.
