Access Rights for multiple devices

Post by Marcus » Mon Feb 04, 2008 4:50 pm

Hi there.

Got my twonky set up running well and like the media server/player concept so much I've got a second dlink box (520 lounge - 320 kids) for the kids.

My problem is I would like to restrict what the kids can watch upstairs.....

Is it possible (could it be made possible 8) ) to have different media trees or access rights on one server for different devices.

I don't really want the kids watching 28days later when they should be watching Disney

Thanks much,

Marcus

I think its not possible because on 4.4.4 RC3 release of Twonky media server, either we can allow device to access server or not allow it. but we can not provide access rights to devices corresponding to media tree.

Would it be possible to run two servers (one licence) and allow the kids access to the under 12 stuff and the second server access to all?

Will go off and have a play over the weekend me thinks 8)

Cheers,

Marcus

You can, under WIndows however, you can't run them as a service, due to service name clashes. The other problem of course, is both servers will be visible, and the kids not really being prevented from viewing content on it.

The only way to prevent access, if logon/password, but the DLNA protocol does not current implement this, so as a result, nor do clients..
