No AC3 6 channel sound on Xbox 360 or Vista Media Player 11

Post by packetvoodoo » Thu Feb 14, 2008 7:48 pm

I've been trialling Twonky on a Buffalo Linkstation Pro using version 4.4.3.1. Fantastic bit of kit.

When I try and stream DIVX encoded video (in .avi container) with AC3 6 channel sound, both my Xbox 360 or Media Player 11 are only playing stereo sound - confirmed by my Panasonic amp. Video is playing correctly.

I can't see any way of checking media properties on the Xbox 360. Media Player 11 isn't reporting any audio codec at all under media properties - when playing a copy of the same AVI file from local disk it correctly shows AC3 6 channel. GSpot is also showing AC3 6 channel for the same file.

What am I missing?

Cheers,

Twonky does not do any transcoding so the problem is at your client end.

For your Windows Media Player client to output 5.1 AC3, download and set up the FFDShow/AC3Filter codecs.

On the XBox, I suggest that you make sure that you are running the latest update and jump on the XBox forums for advice.
