Trick PS3 into thinking codec is not AVC but just MPEG-4

While testing with my PS3 I found that if I copied an mp4 video from the Twonky Server on to the PS3 hard disk. Under information, the video codec shows as MPEG-4. Whereas if I browse using Twonky Server, the PS3 shows the Video Codec as AVC.

I wonder if this relates to the MP4 issue people are having, that is, when watching MP4 files, the video never seems to play smoothly, in fact it's not even watchable. While streaming the PS3 doesn't seem to have an idea what bitrate the file is too. Yet when copied to the PS3 Hard disk it's fine.

I know this may fundamentally be an issue with the PS3 firmware, but would such a workaround by tricking the PS3 into thinking it's not AVC but just MPEG-4 fix this issue?
