Twonky for uClibc 0.9.29?

Hi everyone,

I used to run the TwonkyMediaServer on my Linux-Router (AVM Fritz!Box 7270), which worked fine until I installed the latest beta-firmware. Twonky does not start entirely, I cannot access the configuration page etc. The last line of the log-file is:
14:01:52:618 LOG_SSDP:upnp_ssdp_register_handler registered handler M-Search

As I just found out, this new beta-firmware comes with uClibc 0.9.29 and no longer 0.9.28. Is there a way or a workaround to get Twonky running on uClibC 0.9.29?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi,

I can confirm this.
Plan of AVM is to switch over in general to 0.9.29 so Twonky won't run any longer until recompilation against 0.9.29 happens.

Hey guys at TwonkyVision....please do us the favor....
If you have any beta of this let me know

New Release Candidate of OpenWRT, 8.09RC1 is using uClibc 0.9.29 also, and I can confirm it indite have problems as well:

root@BSDMVN:~# /mnt/usbdrive/twonkymedia/twonkymedia
/mnt/usbdrive/twonkymedia/twonkymedia: can't resolve symbol '__uClibc_start_main'

So not exactly the same error, but still a uClibc 0.9.29 issue.

The fact that Twonkyvision has been quiet about this problem for over 2 months now, worries me a bit since this will be a VERY common problem once OpenWRT and all the NAS hardware manufactures are switching over to uClibc 0.9.29.

Someone from Twonkyvision: please tell us you are working on this, and if possible provide us with a beta.

No reply in more than 8 months!!
This is starting to get really frustrating. A google search for "twonky uclibc-0.9.29" returns 811 results, so this is definably NOT a small problem!

Does anybody have a workaround to get Twonky running on 0.9.29 or some other way around this? Twonkyvision seems clearly not interested in fixing this.

I have tried a couple of other uPNP servers: uShare (fast but no virtual folders support), mediatomb (very feature full but slow and unstable) and a few others. So Twonky still looks to be the only real choice.

COME ON TWONKYVISION HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO RECOMPILE AGAINST uClibc-0.9.29 ???
Some of us would probably even pay for a uClibc-0.9.29 compatible version (even if it is just a 4.4.11 version).

I can understand Twonky don't want the hassle, of supporting people installing on non standardized hardware and firmware but all of us complaining, had already had Twonky running on our systems, so we should know what we are doing.

You can install µClibc 0.9.28 (or parts of it) in parallel and redirect the lib-search-path before starting twonky.
Read my post http://www.streamiumcafe.com/vBulletin/ ... p?p=108368 in the Philips-forum for a short how-to.

Wow didn't see you answer until now.
I have tried your suggestion and it works like a charm!

You are the man! Now finaly after half a year without Twonky I have the only usable uPNP server up and running on my beloved Asus WL-500gP OpenWRT router :D

I was about to by a new NAS just to run Twonky (downgrading my router was not an option), but now I can save the money!

Still: Twonky is now on 4.4.18 and they still does not support uClibc-0.9.29 even trough the problem has been there for more than half a year... come on how hard can it be to compile against the new version of uClibc?

Anyway I am happy, as long as Twonky is running.

/Morten

It's not hard, however it would clearly break other peoples setups, unless they add ANOTHER build configuration... My suspicion, and I don't know this for fact, is that determines what builds are done, is that whatever builds are requested by OEM's for their commercial NAS products, are what get built, and then those binaries are what get published on the unsupported page.

In otherwords, there is no uClibc 0.9.29 because no NAS vendors are using/requesting that yet, when they do, then you might see builds..

Olaf

 ...very hard, if you (un)officially support this wide range of *NIX-flavours.
